I'd prefer to not even have them go through a USB process, but I can't shave a frame there anymore.

I, for one, am extremely happy to have them. Thanks to shitty neighbours who tried to poison my dogs, I'm forced to keep them inside the house, most of the time not having to worry about my friends causing disasters with cable-related shenanigans is a blessing.

I stick to cord controllers. I'd rather not have to deal with replacing batteries or recharging my controllers.

I would rather have wireless then find a 50 foot USB cable so I can have a corded controller to sit on my couch to play.

If they've optimized the wireless connection to make it faster, couldn't they also try to optimize the wired connection to make it even faster?

Scientific pedantry: Radio is also light and moves at light speed. Visible light is a very tiny fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum.

that wasn't the point with what i said, but either way. wireless, when done right, is faster than cabled because light moves faster than electrons.

now, in practice, that's usually not the case and stuff like what logitech is doing is the exception rather than the norm. most people are also likely aware that say, wifi is going to be slower than ethernet (except in certain cases where the manufacturer cheaps out on the lan card, looking at you certain lg tvs)

All that really means is that making controller cords optical fiber should theoretically immediately negate that issue.

that's not gonna really work these days because controllers are stuffed with shit

and no one wants to go back to wired controllers, y'ever notice that the amount of "my console broke after someone tripped on the wire" reduced significantly when wireless became the norm two gens ago

It's very difficult to plug the controller in when you're done playing and very inconvenient.

I just alternate. Theres always one plugged in.

you can even plug it in while using it

in fact you can literally just treat it like a wired controller if you want

While simultaneously introducing the new issue that fibre optic cables are way too fragile for something like a controller whose cord gets moved around at all sorts of awkward angles.

Then just set the controller on something stable and have some kind of wireless handheld control box that connects to the controller.
