What was peak gamefaqs like?

ive been told there used to be like 10,000 users on at once that's crazy to me

i didnt come to this site till it was already out of its peak

Busy, but it was always a cess pool full of trolls with a few diamonds in the rough. I naively thought 20+ years ago this would be a place where gamers would enjoy talking about games and while some of that exists it was mostly people just trashing on everything and being childish.

But at least back then many users were in fact teenage children so I can almost understand why they were the way they were. Now they are in their 30s acting like that.

It was almost too busy back then though on popular boards. Topics would get pushed off the first page if no one posted in them for the first minute. It was almost too busy on some boards. Like trying to follow a chat in a live stream for something big. Its just a blur.

I naively thought 20+ years ago this would be a place where gamers would enjoy talking about games and while some of that exists it was mostly people just trashing on everything and being childish.

I mean that is what happens in the game boards themselves I guess...sure they have haters but that's not everything.

I used to have some really old screen grabs but, this was Gamefaqs. People would make dozens of topics at the same time about and event: observe

I can't figure out where many of the users even went... consider reddit's increasing popularity for the last 10 years or whatever; Reddit is not really a good place for idle chat, speculation or anything that requires an abstract thought... where did THOSE users go?

I remember making a topic, hitting topic list, hit refresh 5 seconds later and da topic was in da 2nd page of da board

Current Events was so fast that you would make a topic and it would be on the second page (with 50 topics per page) within seconds.

That's one of the reasons I didn't post here very often and perfered RI.

conspiracy and paranormal board was alive and kicking and fun.

I figured everyone just went to Reddit or (more proper) social media. Discord is a bigger deal than ever still. I am there, though I try to stay off at times due to my anxiety.

I remember when the Demon's Souls was crazy busy, you'd post and hit refresh a few seconds later and there'd be like 50 more posts in the topic. And topics would stay on the front page of the board for like 30 seconds.

The topics really did flow like wine. You couldn't stay on the front page for more than seconds if your topic didn't get immediate replies.

I found this site after finding a guide to Wind Waker in 2004. Printed the whole thing out to the detriment of my familys printer. Even let a girl borrow it under the impression that it would impress her lol.

Meandered a while across the site for four years until I found the Super Smash Bros Brawl social board.

Those were some pretty wild and memorable times.

I did that a handful of times.
I held on to a printed Tomb Raider guide for several years and occasionally read it in bed. I could never get passed Colosseum as a kid so the later half of the game just sounded like a fever dream (and i guess it still is when you actually play it lol).
