He was so enthusiastic about Trump back when the RNC was happening that he literally punched me in the face because I had the audacity to insult Trump, but he doesn't feel that same passion anymore even just a few months later. Part of his rage seemingly came from his perceived incompetence from Biden, but he's lost a lot of steam ever since Kamala picked up the torch... likely stemming from Trump's complete inability to come up with an insult that actually stuck, unlike "Sleepy Joe".

Now he's starting to think that Trump is the Antichrist, and even though that's an entirely different discussion, it HAS made him abstain from voting this year. I live in Kentucky, so his vote ultimately wouldn't have made a difference, but... if it's possible for someone like him to lose his enthusiasm, it's definitely possible for other MAGAs to lose it. I think we'll be seeing a lot of them stay home this year, just like him.

My Mom has a friend that was such a staunch Republican that he left San Diego for Boise so his vote actually meant something. Huge W/McCain/Romney guy.

Anyway, i'm not saying that what I said will happen with the majority of MAGAts, but I believe it won't be statistically insignificant. He can't afford to lose supporters or have them feeling deflated enough to not show up.

He has anger issues, so he has a history of throwing and breaking things if he gets angry enough. It doesn't justify it, but once he calms down he at least apologizes.

If even ten percent of his supporters (or people who would have supported him) abstain from voting, it might make a big enough difference to actually matter.

Yea my mom and step dad have always been Republicans but my mom voted for Harris and my step dad is not voting (I've tried to convince him but he wouldn't budge).

Same with my dad and step mom. My dad is voting Democrat for the first time ever. My step mom is still a Trump supporter.... But she absolutely hates Vance and doesn't want him to have any chance at the white House. So she's not voting either.

it's been great to see the way this has all unfolded with my parents. both my parents have turned on Trump after voting for him in 2016, and iirc 2020 as well. or maybe just my dad did, i'm not sure.

my dad literally tore up his mail-in ballot and threw it in the trash. he's ranted a few times now about your standard "bOtH SiDeS" bullshit, claims it's all a three ring circus and the two parties are colluding with each other to just keep us at each others' throats so they can stay on top, and that neither party is going to do anything positive for the common people. he says it literally makes no difference whether there's a democrat or a republican in office. i tried to get him to see how he was wrong about this, since his breaking point in finally not supporting Trump anymore was the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and i told him that if a democrat had been in office instead of Trump, that wouldn't have happened. but he still refuses to believe that anything makes any difference.

my mom on the other hand. oh man. hell hath no fury. she voted Trump in 2016 because she didn't like Hillary, and she's regretted it almost ever since. she was appalled at the events of January 6th, which i correctly predicted would happen and she didn't believe me at the time, and then was also like my dad very disheartened at the overturning of Roe v. Wade. she's spent the last couple months constantly addicted to the political news cycle, including tuning into Fox News and Newsmax and rightwing propaganda outlets like that, she says so she can keep informed about the lies they are telling the MAGA cultists but i think it's mostly just so she can endlessly spout insults at the TV, directed toward Trump, Trump loyalists, MAGA cultists, the rightwing media itself. she is fervent about it.

and when she's not doing that, she's getting into paragraphs long Facebook arguments with family friends she has known for literal decades that have been brainwashed into the MAGA cult, with absolutely nothing to show for it because these people are completely and entirely divorced from reality. she finally had to mute and block the worst two or three offenders, though she refuses to outright unfriend them.
