So I guess moving forwards, Nintendo has abandoned the concept of a separate handheld market and console market, and will do this hybrid system thing eh? I only play docked mode so I always treat it as a console anyway. But I wonder if this will be more like the wii u, or if the success will continue we'll see. I still have a bunch of nintendo's games from the past 2 years I haven't bought like the mario and zelda since they'll just sit in my backlog for a while, and part of me was nervous about whether they'll receive updated ports on the new console right after I buy them. Like maybe the new console will run the games better because while I haven't been THAT bothered by load times and game performance, it does exist in some measure. With the console being potentially backwards compatible, I wonder if it'll be more like the gamecube on wii, in that the wii was a fantastic gamecube game player that I absolutely loved, and used to play all the games I missed out on like tales, paper mario, and skies of arcadia. --- http://i.imgur.com/0UFI0T9.jpg ... As someone who experienced this during a rainstorm, I'm also thankful that the switch design makes it almost serve like a power backup where I at least can save my game if a blackout happens since the switch always has a full 100% charge. I'll just walk over to the console from across the room and play the game long enough to reach a save point. So that's nice. On the other hand, I worry about the longevity of the switch. Since I don't know anything about technology or how it works, I'm worried that it basically being battery powered means it's on a ticking clock and will not work one day. Like, my Wii still works over 15 years later. I plugged it into the TV to play just a few months ago. My N64 still worked after 20 years last time I plugged it in. Does the Switch have that kind of time? Because I don't throw anything away, I buy something and use it forever, whenever the occasion and mood strikes. --- http://i.imgur.com/0UFI0T9.jpg ... I think being cynical, and at the very least wary towards Nintendo is pretty justified, especially successful Nintendo. Successful Nintendo repackage games and sell them at markup, or charge more on a game because "we worked really hard on it" nonsense. Or the entire concept of the stupid nso compared to the virtual console. Meanwhile Desperate Nintendo a la the gamecube and wii u era would do things like give away Bayonetta 1 for free when buying Bayonetta 2. That's the Nintendo that grovels to consumers and is humbled. It's a constant battle between wanting them to be successful to make more games but knowing that their success causes greed and screwing over consumers. --- http://i.imgur.com/0UFI0T9.jpg ...
