Come on... you should know the answer to that is obviously going to be no. Hell when they offered that legacy program back when the DS/3DS was out, Punch-Out was arguably the worst its ever been. Damn near unplayable.

Nowhere does it say physical cartridges are going to be playable on Switch 2s console. It says "Switch Software" which for all we know could be digital downloads, which is what Nintendo has been doing for years now. Literally nothing changes. Until I see some clarification of it performing like a PS2 or DS with a physical slot, I'm not going to hold my breath for hardware compatibility.

This was announced at the investor meeting and it's highly unlikely they would announce BC for the investors only to go "psych! we only meant digital!". That's something they might do with public game announcement marketing but not at an investor meeting.

I'm just basing it on that one tweet. I could be wrong, but the wording suggests that the E-Shop is staying. Not that the console will be backwards compatible with physical media.

I only play docked mode so I always treat it as a console anyway.

I think the default interpretation is that "switch software" would mean the ability to play Switch games on the successor by either means. Thinking it would only mean digital as a weasel worded technicality is a cynical interpretation. In any case, all the outlets are reporting it as BC so if they really did mean only digital then that's going to have to be corrected fast.

It was nice during Milton to have some form of electronic entertainment when the power went out.

even after what happened with the Wii U Shop? i had like $200-$300 worth of old school games that are just gone forever. unless Nintendo comes up with a way to support long term ownership of those glorified emulators + ROMs, i wont buy em.

I think being cynical, and at the very least wary towards Nintendo is pretty justified, especially successful Nintendo. Successful Nintendo repackage games and sell them at markup, or charge more on a game because "we worked really hard on it" nonsense. Or the entire concept of the stupid nso compared to the virtual console.

Meanwhile Desperate Nintendo a la the gamecube and wii u era would do things like give away Bayonetta 1 for free when buying Bayonetta 2. That's the Nintendo that grovels to consumers and is humbled.

It's a constant battle between wanting them to be successful to make more games but knowing that their success causes greed and screwing over consumers.
