Microsoft makes Activision revive the Guitar Hero franchise.

These aren't my type of games but they were fucking hugely popular and I never understood why this and Rock Band just like kind of stopped making shit around the same time like 10 years ago. I think Rock Band had some VR game in like 2017 but hasn't had a main game since like 2015.

People were super into that series and bought all the instruments and shit and I thought the DLC was really popular and sold well. I wonder why they seemed to not do either one of these anymore. Licensing too expensive or something?

I mean, they did revive it once already lol.

Activision was entirely thrust into the modern era by COD WOW and Guitar Hero. Its so strange the entire genre just died.

For real though, it's ridiculous that Guitar Hero isn't a once-every-few-years game. Hell, it's the future, throw a freemium version up on all the storefronts and just crank out DLC for years and years, Rock Band style. You can even still buy new guitar controllers.

The rhythm game market got oversaturated like crazy, but rhythm games never really stopped being popular. There is no reason I'm aware of that a new guitar game wouldn't sell like hotcakes.

pretty sure the reason it's not being sold anymore is because it wasn't selling like hotcakes

companies don't look at forecasts and see a line go up and say "gee, we should stop selling this." companies look at the forecasts, see the line going steadily down, and say "look we can stop this before we start losing money from it"

another revival might help but there needs to be a tech jump somewhere to boost it. it's either gotta be something with the instruments themselves (better or easier to play), or something that people get addicted to (social media boosts, somehow actually affecting lives like starting a real band, etc). otherwise you're basically just selling them old games, and if there's anything kids don't really like, it's old games.

I never played RockBand because I just liked the guitar. Maybe they could do an online thing where someone plays guitar, another plays drums, and another plays bass.

Keep vocals out, imo.
