How hard is it to just type out what the show is saying as you watch it? Their captions people have one job and they screw it up as often as possible.

Theres several issues with Netflix's subtitles and they all annoy me in different ways.
  • Subtitle system can't handle more than two lines at once (so if there's important text that needs to be translated AND someone's talking at the same time, good luck)
  • Most subtitles for anime are dubtitles and useless if you're watching in Japanese
  • Subtitles are just... Wrong and don't say what's being said on screen.

That last one is my biggest peeve. They say the same thing but in very different ways. Likewhy?? The dub VAs are right there telling the captionists what should be written on the screen.

because they spend minimal amount of money on it

and their projection charts say that bad subtitles don't lose them any money

I definitely feel like the two departments do the work independent of each other. So one person translates it one way, and the other a different way. They are basically saying the same thing, just not exactly the same. It would be so much nicer if say the dub department did their work first, then the sub department would use what they said instead, so that everything matched up.

Some of it is because it uses an earlier script and bases it off that.
