First watched it in high school on AMC, I believe, late at night. Amazing movie.

I first watched the 2012 remake and enjoyed that a lot. The original is much better

It was always harder for me to rewatch this movie after Dirty Dancing because seeing Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the same movie could never be looked at the same again. This was also in that time frame that it seemed like C. Thomas Howell was going to be a breakout star.

Its not a movie I put with so many of my other classic 80s favorites but it certainly has a following for sure. I feel like 84 was one of the strongest years of the decade and its not in my top tier but still a very notable movie. Definitely worth watching.

Also really is a reminder of the time in that era that they used to tell us and teach us at school that 100% USSR and communism was going to kill us. Not if but when. Good times haha.

I like both quite a bit, there's a bigger emotional loss I feel in the second (regarding the two brothers) that the first doesn't quite hit because yeah they're all high school friends and yeah they keep getting picked off, however the emotional connection just isn't there.

Having said that, yeah I do think the original is still better overall.

Exactly. Though you're watching a bunch of high school kids get picked off in the first one it's more like "oh no!" type of response. Sad, sure because of the circumstances and what they're valiantly fighting for, however it didn't really hurt emotionally.

The brotherly bond between Peck and Hemsworth was definitely better. As was their fathers death as a spark of revenge. I felt that their goodbye to the guy that was stabbed with the tracker was also better.
