Imagine thinking this is somehow worse than the weapon situation in the US.

Dunno.

On balance, I'm happier that some kid isn't walking around with that.

So it's bad that somebody was arrested for trying to import a weapon that is literally banned in the country?

Because that sounds fine to me and I wish we could get some of that over here.

that knife really looks more like it was meant to be a trophy item than viable weapon
I mean just look at that elongated curve shit will get stuck on anything you try to slash it with.

Reverse grip handling.
That hole is where you put your thumb.
You use them like doing hook in boxing.

I'm surprised you know enough about blades to realize it would get stuck if it faced that way, and yet you didn't recognize that it's a reverse grip. Is this granular knowledge work related?

If it's just a trophy piece, they could have 3D printed and painted it.

Stuff like that is commonly banned in the US as well, but guns are fine.

Not that I necessarily agree with the illegality, but ecstasy will also get you jail time in the US as well.

Alright, reading this I was like "Well prison's a bit harsh. He's only 18. I don't think they'll send him to prison just for-"

He was further arrested for possession of a Class A drug after suspected ecstasy tablets were discovered during a search of his home address.
Oh, okay. I guess he's going away for a bit then.

You actually put your index finger, though there are other techniques with thumb and pinky.

Either way a karambit is one of those knives that's actually just as much of a danger to the wielder as it is the target. It can be used as a pivot to get a spinning slash extension and gain reach, the trade off is it will eventually catch your on your forearm/finger.

As for the curved leading edge (the one that appears smaller visually with the point). If it's properly done, it actually has a much larger effective cutting surface than a standard/straight edge and potentially more lethal than you'd think. The best way to think of them is their origin of design. A tiger or feline claw slashing through flesh.

I only know this because at one point I did a bunch of digging into it because I wanted to buy one, but decided I probably shouldn't based on it being one of the few fixed blades that'll cut you on day one even with extreme care.

I stepped away for a moment, but it just hit me that this could actually be even more illegal, for reasons. I won't go into details, but there are companies that sell plastic blades that can be almost as lethal. The difference is they're plastic... if you see where this is going.

its just something I read about when it came to knives. Seen a few YouTubers talk about it in self defense videos and stuff

I know it's distressing lads, but you are the holders of the coveted "World's stupidest country" trophy for now.

Obviously it's a wrench to let it go after our fine and lasting run with Brexit and associated shenanigans, but we've gotta respect the game and relinquish the title.

Dont get me wrong, the UK is not a great place, and I say that as somebody who lived there for 35 years. I have no intention of ever moving back there. But if it was the UK or the US as the only options, Id choose the UK in a heartbeat.

There are plenty of truly awful things about living in the UK.

But UHC and not having a culture that worships guns as magical freedom totems are minimum requirements for somewhere to live.

are there actually 3D printers that can make this though? (outside of really specialized stuff an average person would never have access to)

seems like it would need both a specific kind of plastic and very good sharpening / thin printing tech

Somewhat.

They won't be nearly as durable as the fiber glass reinforced ones, but they can still function in a limited capacity. They're also not quite on the same level as a ghost gun that had the upper or lower made via 3d printer, but they can still bypass import/sales laws and function as a high quality shiv/blade at the very least... with limited uses.

That's why I said making them could actually be more illegal, depending on how they view it. It's already bad enough to be investigated and stopped for importing something banned, it's going to be even worse if they find out you've been manufacturing them in private and they fall within the parameters.

iirc, It's bad enough that they've already got laws regarding people attaching kitchen knives to sticks to create makeshift warpicks. It's because there's people doing it.
