What are some dishes that someone special to you makes (or used to make) better than anyone else?

My mother's vegetable soup comes to mind.

My dad's biscuits and gravy put any other kind I've ever had to shame. I can't say I know what he does differently, but whatever it is, it works~

My grandma was a professional cook for like 40 years. When I was in high school we moved to a small town and she was the head cook at the K-12 school. In those days in my area all schools had their own on site industrial kitchens with "lunch ladies" Food was always freshly prepared and most everything was made from scratch.

My grandma ran the schools kitchen and made all the decisions on what to buy and what menu to make that met nutritional guidelines. She made a lot of great home made stuff and she would bake fresh cookies for the teachers and staff. They loved her.

But by far the school LOVED her chicken tetrazzini. The fresh made from scratch noodles were amazing. Students and faculty alike raved about it for multiple decades. Around 5 years ago when she passed they gave the recipe out at her funeral and everyone was reminiscing and all smiles about it. She made many other great dishes at school and of course in her home for me but that is something that will always stand out to me.

Also as a side note both my junior and senior year I was able to schedule study hall right before lunch and me and another guy were dishwashers in the kitchen for 2 hours a day. I got to work with my grandma who I was close to, get extra food, and earn spare money.

It wasn't much money. Minimum wage which was like $4.65 back then in the early 90's but it was 10 hours a week so on the 1st and 15th of each month I got a check for like $65 from the school. Was definitely enough to like pay for my gas in my vehicle and for going out and getting a meal here and there when I was in school.

I really have great memories of working in the kitchen with my grandma. And seriously, so much stuff was made from scratch. Our pizza was made with real dough and everything was so damn good. Sure we got like some stuff from a can like pears/peaches that kind of thing. It wasn't perfect. But she made everything from scratch she could and used her budget very wisely.
