All the searches is fucking AI, and ad based. The image search is completely washed, once again completely filled with AI and Facebook/Threads posts. It has gotten bad, fast. What the in the absolute hell do I use now?

image search has been trash for like a decade, since you can't direct link anything without getting a 6000 character URL

It used to be incredible too. That's what pisses me off the most

I've given up in regards to AI chat bots taking over search engines.

I just use ecosia's Ai chat for most things now. ... it's not that bad. Usually faster than wading through search results.

Its all glue on pizza until the Google AI tells some poor sap with health anxiety that his hangnail is a type of lung cancer.

I use Google as a search engine for Reddit. I use Startpage as an actual search engine.

Google has been horrible for years now. I actually think the inclusion of AI made it slightly better due to the search results being shit.

Yeah whenever Im looking for something I just google what I want followed by reddit and most of the time I find what I need

Switched my search engine to DuckDuckGo a while back.

You could use Duckduckgo.

It's also good to protect your privacy, as it doesn't remember your searches.

Yeah, I just switched to Bing of all things a couple days ago.

I don't know how much better Bing is but I've been using that. I've accumulated over 30k points, which is probably around $20 so far.

A couple weeks ago I was doing a bunch of research on hotels & things to do in Japan and fucking google then decided that I must live in Japan. It decided my home IP was in Japan. So my kids were getting Japanese ads in YouTube & Spotify. And anytime I did a search I got results in Japanese.

shit was wild. My kids reported it because it was driving them bonkers. Took almost a week to get IP back in the US.

I used Bing search points to pay for GTA5 of all things on its original release. Had 5 different accounts going, for some reason 2 of the accounts earned more points than the others. Then out of the blue they banned all my accounts. Never went back. Might be reconsidering that soon.

It used to be, wikipedia was literally the first result for any search. Now I have to scroll past like 6 ads and the AI prompt to even find the wiki page

My 6yo daughter likes a show called Not Quite Narwhal. It's about a unicorn who was raised narwhal. Fun kids show with good music and art. Yesterday she asked me if if they are still making new ones. So we google for "Not Quite Narwhal". Google automatically converted that to what it thought I meant to ask for: "Is Not Quite Narwhal LGBT?", and then gave me a featured summary at the top about how yes, it is "unbiblical" and parents should be strongly cautioned before exposing their children to it, sourced from some whack-job faith-based media criticism site. I guess the bright side is that it lead me to research more about the show and its creative team and I ended up coming away with a much higher opinion of it. Anyway thumbs-down for Google, but thumbs-up for the show.

I forgot you can switch search engines on fly in Firefox, and I'm going to try DuckDuckGo on a trial basis.

Yeah that part I can understand. The number of linked pictures or other media will just keep growing.

Theyre already due for a new method as it is.
