I haven't watched either but I'm sure I would love Precure much more than Sailor Moon. Mahou shoujo is my favorite anime genre but not because of old anime, it's because of Jewelpet. And Precure is much more in the style of Jewelpet than Sailor Moon. I would have watched Precure but it's an extremely long series and I decided to marathon Jewelpet instead.

The nostalgia is strong for Sailor Moon, and it does some things better than even modern anime Neptune and Uranus

But the deciding factor is I just don't like the character designs in the later seasons of Sailor Moon, and Pretty Cure being consistently among the best in that category gives it the win for me.

Pretty Cure, no question. There is absolutely nothing that Sailor Moon does well that hasn't been done better several times over by the PreCure franchise. In terms of overall quality, I would only put Sailor Moon above like the 4-5 worst Precure series, but that still means that 15+ different Precure series are better.

Pretty Cure is basically the love child of Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z: cute magical girl aesthetics mixed with awesome martial arts fight scenes. The franchise has been going for over 20 years, but (almost) each year is a new series with a new cast and a new story, so you can watch (almost) any of them as a standalone series. It's huge in Japan (on the level of One Piece, Naruto, Pokemon, and the aforementioned Sailor Moon and DBZ) but only a niche franchise in the west.
