I don't believe a mother should make a decision about circumcising a baby boy just like I don't think male politicians should make decisions about a woman's reproductive health.

I actually don't agree with people about the male politicians part and always thought it was bad to say because it leads to thinking that the sex of the politicians/person matters in these decisions, rather than the autonomy of the person themselves and their care giver. It's not as if there aren't tons of women pro lifers.

It's also not exactly an apples to apples comparison since while the reproductive health question directly impacts the mother and fetus, it is ultimately about the bodily autonomy of the mother, while circumcision one only directly impacts the bodily autonomy of the child, so both parents should ultimately have a say.

Probably, I actually do think something like abortion should involve both parents. It's ultimately the mother's choice, but it's a big decision that impacts her and their future child and it'd be weird for an involved father to not be allowed to weigh in on the discussion.

And ideas about circumcision should impact both parents since again, both are the parents

First of all, I don't support circumcision at all. If it is done, it should only be done with the consent of both parents (if possible, since a father might die before the child is born or not want to be involved in any decisions). But in a situation like OP's, where the mother wants it done but the father doesn't, yes, I absolutely believe the opinion of the person who possesses the same sexual organs as the child in question should be considered paramount. It goes the other way too, as I also believe a man/father shouldn't have final say on any procedure which could affect his daughters sexual or reproductive health over the woman/mother's wishes.

Parents should not have the right to modify the child's body in any way period.
It's a human, not their fucking toy.

The only exceptions to this should be cases that were
a) absolutely needed for the sake of the victim
b) double checked by qualified doctors to confirm that the decision was correct and that the people making the decision were qualified (mental state of the child itself for example)

Cutting foreskin should definitely be illegal. It is harmless and can bring unique pleasure to both people involved.

Vasectomy (adults choosing for themselves obviously) I also think is a mistake, but in the end it doesn't really matter and harms no one other than themselves. Sure, make it legal, at the risk of the choice ruining relationships just by existing.

He was trying to say that men should have final say on men genitalia and vice versa for women genitalia.
Similar to how some will say "only women should have a say regarding female genitalia".

But as I mentioned in my above post, I think he misunderstands the difference in that statement in regards to abortion and his statement about circumcision.

What the fuck? I have 4 kids. Why wouldn't I get a vasectomy?

This topic is about circumcision, TC stated that he forgot the usual connotation behind "snip."

They'll at least bring it up, but I think the actual procedure is usually done at the hospital, unsure by whom.

I guess that's something. Was confused why so many people's first thought was vasectomy when they saw obgyn.
