That was so cool. Only thing that came close is RDR2 including half of RDR1's map in the Epilogue for no reason. But that was pretty barren. There are some weirdos that are super butthurt about it. I've heard people actually say the game would have been better if it was cut. The only thing that bugged me is wild Pokemon levels were so low, but the gym leaders were high-leveled. Like 40+. I think even random trainers had Mons at those levels, rather than being near the level of the route they were on, though I could be remembering that part wrong. When the wild Pokemon are level 10 and trainer teams are 40+, you can't start a fresh Kanto team and actually stay competitive. --- Bosses are immune to the eat command so it won't be possible to end the final boss fight of the game by eating it. -VeghEsther ... But it'd still be nice to get the occasional guest region. Especially now that DLC areas are a thing, it could be cool to get an old region as DLC instead of a couple of smaller new areas (though I did like Kitakami) and that would make it easier to justify doing from Gamefreak's perspective. --- "Foolishness, Dante. The biggest issue with Kanto in Gen 2 imo is the fact that it was treated as an open world, giving the player the freedom to visit any town in almost any order. As a result all the gym leaders (except Blue) have same-ish levels and are less of a challenge than the E4, making you just breeze through gym after gym. I think if the path was more linear, the opponents' levels could grow along with the player and make it more of a challenge rather than a bonus tour. --- In dentibus anticis frustum magnum spinaciae habes. ... Gen 2 is the best gen to me, for most of the reasons stated. The concept of adding new pokemon was still pretty fertile, too, so most of the then-recent additions were good to great, which only amplifies how fun it is. Bears, ferrets, pine cones, crocodiles, anglerfish, etc. The world was their cloyster (nyuk, nyuk). Kinda feels like current pokemon concepts are in a fallow period to me, but after making a thousand or more, maybe that's just to be expected. Also, I'm playing through Black 1 right now and they didn't mix old and new critters for the main storyline, instead leaving all older stuff to the post-game -- a foolish choice. A ratio where 75% of the minions you encounter are new would probably be acceptable without playing too much on nostalgia. But yeah, the big thing for me in Gen 2 was breeding. I always disliked wandering through the grass and finding a LV50 Whateverthehell and just using it as-is. That doesn't replicate the fun of leaving your fictional village with your young creature and training to get stronger! So, getting to hatch wimpy creatures and raise 'em up was great. That's still a mindset I have to this day and rather dislike games that timegate the daycare center's access (like BW2). --- Take me down from the ridge where the summer ends And watch the city spread out just like a jet's flame ... As a result all the gym leaders (except Blue) have same-ish levels and are less of a challenge than the E4, making you just breeze through gym after gym. I actually liked this more. Because from a in-game standpoint, you're the champion of Kanto too - you should be better than the gym leaders there too. If it was linear and the opponents levels continued to rise, it then sort of undermines the idea that you're the "champion" of the region, because why tf would the Elite 4 being going easy on you the first time? It keeps the main challenge as the "champions" of each region, or the people who you already know have been champion before (Blue, Red). It means you get to go on a victory lap and sort of explore this old world as a bonus for playing through the game, rather than some secret second game after you "finish". ... Copied to Clipboard!
