Played RE2 Remake for the first time back in October and just replayed OG RE3 over the past 2 days. Time to keep on with my 6 year long Resident Evil marathon with the remake of 3.

Loved RE2's remake and it's probably my fourth or fifth favorite RE game. Was really only disappointed in how they handled both scenarios with the story not going together and a lot of repeating Birkin boss fights. Was an absolute blast to play. Resident Evil 3 is my second least favorite classic RE game. (REmake > 2 > 1 > CV > 3 > 0) So I'm very excited to play a new version of it with the remake shine.

I know a lot of people ain't big on this one and I think it's because it's really short and they cut out quite a bit? I don't want to know specifics since I'll find out for myself, but I'm not too opposed to a...I guess let's say "bite sized" follow up to RE2. Of course it'll help not paying full price or waiting a year+ to play it after 2.

I'll be starting soon and posting my thoughts along the way as Jill Valentine takes on Mr. Nemesis and his big ass teeth.

That's my understanding, yeah. If you played the original, you were disappointed with how much got left out. But what it does include, it did pretty well, I felt. Definitely improved characters across the board, so folks could take the story a little more seriously.

Hope you enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised by it, despite the aforementioned disappointments.

I made note from my last topic @Beany asked me to @ him when I played 3, so here ya go friendo.

Cool opening. FMV footage, first person perspective and Jill's sad apartment. Good introduction to Nemesis with a garbage bag on his head. Fun lil' chase and straight into Carlos. Haven't fired a single bullet yet for the record. Did get grabbed once.

In the subway now. Do hope we're still going to revisit the RCPD. I'm all for tweaking the opening part with the city falling apart, but it was also the coolest thing on paper.

They shortened some of this game, like it's really short. But in turn RE4 Remake is like 20 hours long even when you skip cutscenes and dialog.

Well so far it's awesome. Did not get far at all (and my aim is absolute trash), but I already love more RE2 in such a cool setting.

All I've done is go through some streets, find a buncha locked stuff and picked up a gem.

The setting is just so cool. Takes that first starting area of RE2 and does it so much bigger. And unlike the original 3, the streets and wide enough to actually play around the zombies. And the map so far is just more fun and coherent. Found a lot of the same locks which I'm guessing might need a lockpick with Jill being the master and all. Also found some chains, so those are probably for bolt cutters.

And explosive red barrels are always a blast.

Gotta stop for now, but gonna go back for more later tonight. See if I can't get that train up and running.

Hmm. I don't see a durability bar on the knife this time. To make up for that, it appears Jill's knife fucking sucks? Just had some real bad exchanges trying to use it. I thought the one in 2 was pretty damned strong.

Neat maze area with gross mouth bug monsters. Leon never had to deal with this shit.

Ayyy first Nemesis fight.

Wow the dodge mechanic works pretty darn well here. And aiming slows down time? Nice.

Whooped Nemesis' ass, but ran out of ammo cause I wasn't prepared. Gonna try again. Not sure if he drops anything or not. I know fighting Mr. X was a big waste of time and ammo, so might be the same here.

Oh nice he went down to a well placed grenade and dropped a supply crate. Sweet.

Fuck he's persistent!

Killed me 3 times now. Not sure dropping him does much good. Least with Mr. X you could make good distance, but this fucker just stays on my ass.

What the FUCK do I gotta do to lose this guy? I guess I GOTTA fight him? Doesn't seem like downing him stops him though. Every time I get across the street he comes back to eat up even more god damn ammo. Piss off.

I'm sure there's some really good way to deal with Nemesis, but for now I just used environmental hazards and plugged him a few times. Had to down him 3 times total to get to the shotgun and reroute the trains, but I think I picked up everything along the way.

Not looking like I'm gonna be revisiting the police station which is super lame. Going back after Leon & Claire were there and seeing the S.T.A.R.S. office were always neat. Surprising too since they already had those assets made.

We'll see. Think my next goal is to get on the train and get outta here though. Best make sure I didn't leave any doors locked along the way. Not exactly swimming in ammo or healing items. Do have a decent collection of gunpowder though.

Honestly, the remake only shines in Graphics and script everything else is better in the Original.

What the fuck are these butthole enemies? Well fuck these guys. Just shooting out the leg and running away just like good ol' RE2make.

So Nemesis is making these things. Hmm. IIRC, Wesker got the Plagas and used that for Uroboros? And Nemesis is just a jacked up Tyrant? And Tyrants sort of come from Lisa Trevor? Ah fuck it. I'll figure out the details later. Maybe it's just some cool connection between 3 and 4. Or maybe they just look like Plagas. All I know right now is that their long range attacks fucking suck ass.

How in the fuck do I get back to the god damn subway?

Gameplay sure feels a lot better than the original. The dodge actually seems to work pretty well.

My map betrayed me. I had to run towards the area that was all red.

Got into a toy store and found a box art Mega Man.

Found you you can stun Nemesis by shooting his chest thing. I've already gotten pretty good at dodging.

Alright finding this more annoying than fun now.

Made it to the subway. That wasn't very fun.

Good to know that just like in the OGs, Mr. X is wayyyyyy better than Nemesis.

Man I'm pretty disappointed at just how tedious Nemesis is AGAIN. He's not this holy shit moment. He's an annoying roadblock that eats up your ammo and possibly your health items. Add these fucking butthole enemies who can hit you from 24 feet away with a swipe and yeah. I've been playing for 2 hours and not feeling very good about it.

Maybe I'm just sour cause I died so many times and don't know the optimal way to deal with enemies yet. We'll see.

K. Made it to the sewers. Got vored. Done for the night.

The chase and mini fight with Nemesis was good. Feel like the more scripted moments where he shows up work better since you're in a better location to fight him.

Mixed feelings so far. The core gameplay is still great and I enjoyed going around the city, unlocking stuff, reading notes, etc. Resident Evil shit. Jill's cool and I really like her look. Carlos seems cool despite being pretty different. Nemesis at least looks cool.

Hopefully once I get better at handling Nemesis (and the buttholes), things will be less annoying and I'll enjoy everything more.

Didn't really get to play today. Lots of running around doing thangs (with a lil Balatro on the side).

Just killing the giant frog monsters. Ammo conservation be damned.

Why is there a sewer level? 3 didn't have a sewer level. It had 2 screens where you went down into a sewer.

Anyway, got the grenade launcher. Saving this bad boy. Wonder which rounds are best to make. I think acid were the strongest against Birkin and X? I know freeze rounds were the best in 3, but it doesn't look like those exist here.

So these frogs are actually types of Hunters. They go down easy enough with some distance, so hopefully these are the only hunters in the game.

Game clock says I've been playing for 2 hours. Probably 2 and a half when factoring deaths and testing out fights against Nemesis.

Sewer section ended up being pretty short.

Nemesis flamethrower chase through the construction site was kinda tepid. Felt like a set piece, but those are apparently very difficult to pull off well. No one's ever gotten on Uncharted's level.

Fought him on the rooftop and that went pretty well since I brought the heavy artillery. Shotgun shells, 2 grenades, 4 flame rounds and only needed one heal. Put him down first try.

Oh shit wait is this the RCPD garage entrance? Alright maybe I spoke too soon earlier.

Ayyy gunstore guy. Daughter still ain't turn? Or maybe she did.

Annnnd Nemesis back. Cause we can't got 10 minutes without seeing Nemesis. Now with rocket launcher.

Guess we really ain't going to the station...

IMO RE3 Remake is bad as a remake but great as a follow-up to RE2 Remake.

Great action bit where they just throw 10 zombies at you and a licker. Good thing I scrounged up all that extra ammo. Plus I've got no probably just blasting these fools away since I'm not messing with Jill's inventory.

Done with the RCPD. That was great. Having a lot more fun now. It was basically that one Nemesis section where he just kept teleporting right in front of me every 30 seconds even if I downed him. That frustrated me.

It's nice we have a bit more story too. Adding the mission to "save" the scientist with the curse. Carlos finding out just how dirty Umbrella is. Really starting to dig this now.

Gotta take another break since I have to return some video tapes. Breaking the game up like this is probably also helping rather than beating it in one sitting.

Awesome fight against Nemesis. Mine rounds are fun.

Oh damn Jill got a splinter. Nicholai is such a mustache twirling asshole,. He just happened to be there to give a shitty little villain line after Jill got got? Piss off dude. Hope he gets it extra bad in this.

Hospital area's pretty cool. And I think that was just a Hunter running by when I opened the door. Great scare.

Liking all the notes I'm finding too. Doctors and nurses reacting to the shit just starting to hit the fan. Racoon City right as the outbreak started was always a great setting.

Ayyyyy RE1 Hunter vision. Fucker took two whole clips from the assault rifle. Managed to not get touched though.

Ohhhhhh. I just punched a hunter in the face and knocked him back. Carlos rules.

Well I see they still have their insta-death hit. That's funnnnnn.

Dr. Bard sounds pretty evil. Heyyy Carlos agrees. Called him a douche. Digging Carlos responding to all this bullshit with little lines thrown in.

And he dead. Email to "Greg Tester". I'm always curious if that's a name from a previous game. There are always so many names thrown around. It's fun when you can pick up on an obscure one.

Punching Hunters feels incredible. Why is Carlos so badass? Dude feels like he could give Chris a run for his money.

Alright this game actually rules. That was awesome.

If memory serves, you only have to fight Nemesis during specific boss fight sequences (of which you have gone through two, if I am following along correctly). For his other encounters you should be able to just run from him (possible taking advantage of environmental hazards to buy you time on occasion), and take advantage of the handful of rooms where he won't follow you.

Though, much like in the original, he does drop things if you deal enough damage to down him. But he takes quite a bit of punishment, I wasn't able to do it on my nightmare run.

I'll mark it as spoilers, but if you've played REmake-RE5, it's just recapping things you've already been told.

Wesker/Tricell improved the Plagas and that's what he used to infect the bulk of the enemies in RE5, but Uroboros was developed independently. It's just an improved strain of the Progenitor Virus.

Nemesis is a T-103 Tyrant, the exact same thing as Mr. X, but he was implanted with the Nemesis parasite. The parasite severs the connection between the brain and the body, implanting itself in its place. Thinking about it, Nemesis is basically just Spongebob in that episode where Plankton controlled his brain: a big dumb body controlled by something much smarter.

I don't think Lisa has anything to do with Tyrants beyond her being used as a test subject for decades. What you might be remembering is that they tried implanting her with a Nemesis parasite and her fucked up biology just caused her body to consume it. Birkin took samples from her after this and used them to develop the G-Virus.

I think the reason Nemesis is kind of ass in this game is that they bought into the hype and made him too dangerous. The most common complaint is that he's not omnipresent like he apparently was in the original or how Mr. X is in the remake, but as you've pointed out, he's just incredibly difficult to deal with and ends up being really disruptive to normal gameplay.

So they had to massively rein in how often he was in the game.

Alright, I'm starting to really like Nicholai. He's ridiculously evil and just cares about money. To an absurd degree. He's really winning me over with his sleeze. He's like Irving! I love Irving. One of my favorite RE villains.

Another really good Nemesis fight. Durable as fuck. Like the Carlos is here to help. His role's really been expanded in a fantastic way compared to the original.

And here we go. This has to be final Nemesis. Giant goo fuck. And an awesome railgun with Jill looking like Vulcan Raven.

So I waited to take the shot to see if something would happen annnnd he killed us. That's neat.

And that's my last escape and the end of Resident Evil 3 Remake! I...loved it! Got pretty sour on that one Nemesis section and still think that's kinda too annoying, but it wasn't a repeated thing throughout the game. So fine. Every other Nemesis encounter after that was better too.

I'll probably be crucified for saying this, but this was better than the original RE3. I never liked the original that much. It was very cool with a lot of neat ideas and some sick moments, but I disliked the gameplay (especially the dodge), I disliked Nemesis (compared to Mr. X) and I disliked traversing the city streets. The story wasn't anything to write home about. It was pretty straight forward. It's still a good game, but as I said earlier, it's the second worst classic RE game to me.

This game improved...everything? I liked the layout of the city more. The added areas were good. Really think the expanded hospital was great and a highlight. The RCPD was maybe not as cool, but still awesome. Jill was aces. Carlos ruled. Nicholai ended up being a hell of a heel. I don't mind losing the bell tower honestly cause that area was so short in the original anyway. The only real section I thought was sweet that was missing was the graveyard (which was also very short).

Game is on the short side (I finished at 6 hours according to the game, but total playtime was around 8 or 9), but I didn't mind. I'm sure you can trim it down to 2 or 3 if you don't take your sweet time like I always do in RE games, but eh. Aside from charging a full $60 for it, I don't really see a problem. RE3 was always shorter than 2.

End of the day this was just more of the RE2make gameplay which I love. Had plenty of new enemies and locations. Big thumbs up.

I do think if this game had released as like a thirty dollar DLC for RE2, it would have been far, far better received.

Full price was definitely a bit much.

Yeah I ended up downing him 3 times and had him drop 3 item boxes. Two were weapon attachments and one was just shotgun shells. My problem at the time was I'd down him and then cut through a building and not 20 seconds later he'd jump back in my path. That felt like it happened 3 times in a row and towards the start of the game, that really drains your ammo and health items. Felt like downing him or stunning him wasn't even worth it, but at the same time running away wasn't easily done either.

Yeah agreed. I also really liked that it just felt pretty different from 2 in that it was a lot more actiony. I love me my RE2 classic gameplay of clearing out rooms, unlocking doors, picking up resources and memos, but the gameplay here is totally good enough for a more action oriented game. Once I got past the first area I had a blast for the rest of the game. Well, maybe not the sewer, but that didn't overstay its welcome.

Full price was definitely a bit much.

I was expecting it to be even more like DLC based on the reputation, but this certainly had enough new stuff to justify it being a stand alone game. But yeah, if it was sold with a lower price that matches it's shorter length, that'd have been nice.

About replay OG RE3 myself. May replay the RE3make after and follow your lead. I definitely liked it when I played it at launch, but it was definitely something of a letdown for my favorite RE with how short it was, though.

Have fun. It's pretty fun seeing certain areas or puzzles get updated or remixed. I think playing back to back you pick up on a lot more little details. Did the same for RE2 and SH2 this year.

I mirror your thoughts, for many of the same reasons. Unlike you, though, I loved exploring the city in the first half. But I was really awful with the dodge, and the bosses felt like they were built around it, so I suffered a lot. My go-to strategy basically became mix the strongest ammo possible and use it all on bosses.

I mean, don't get me wrong, those few times where I did get the dodge right, it was very cool. Jill has some pretty sick acrobatic moves built in if you nail them right, but I could only ever do it by accident.

In this one the dodge had a mercy buffer for idiots like me, so even if I was terrible with it, I would at least get some utility out of the dodge mechanic.

Unlike you, though, I loved exploring the city in the first half.

For the record I really really liked the first part of the city. Going through buildings, the power station, etc. It was just after Nemesis showed up.

i never played the OG but when i played the remake, it felt like there was some stuff that was cut from the game cause i remember one of the characters turning bad without any explanation...
