Re-watched the movie with the kids last night (holds up), and hot damn sitting down for a movie and being done in under an hour and twenty minutes? Fan-fucking-tastic. No padding and somehow didn't feel rushed.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

I'd imagine that the process of making the film through stop-motion was grueling enough.

Compressed vs. decompressed storytelling. There are tight 22-minute episodes full of character development and changes to the status quo, and indulgent three-hour-plus movies where nothing happens

Yeah, I wish movies would go back to the maximum 90 minute limit. I blame Marvel for that shit.

There isn't a ton of plot after the initial build up. They don't fuck around with nonsense. The movie itself is mostly overall just a vehicle for cool songs via a charming but pretty straight forward story

I'm gonna use Steven Universe as an example here, but those episodes were only 11 minutes long but somehow managed to fit good, interesting, and coherent plots into them. When looking back at some older cartoons that filled a 30 minute time slot and usually being 22 minutes on their own, there's just a bunch of filler in them that doesn't actually move any kind of story along.

Its the amount of time needed for the story they wanted to tell.

Also it takes an insanely long amount of time to make a stop motion movie lol

modern animated movies (and movies in general) should take note. Most movies shouldnt last more than 90-105 minutes unless REALLY necessary

Because the actual story could easily be told in about 20 minutes and with half as many characters

It's one of the most padded-out movies there is

I mean it helps the story is very straight forward. You're not really watching it for the story though, but for the music and gorgeous stop motion animation. Also, stop motion being an absolute pain in the ass to work with, so I have a lot of respect for the medium.

Because they made it with no mind towards making advertisement cuts. No need for dramatic posing nonsense cuts out a massive amount of the run time.

I like when being a kid, I wished games and movies would be longer. Now, I wish they'd be shorter with no padding
