Let's have some AI writing new game guides and cheat codes and answering the QA's as well

While we're at it AI can replace the mod team and devs as well. Hell we don't even need users. Let's just have everyone deploy their own AI bot like a pokemon that will shitpost for you like a bot farm

Well, AI-generated users could do a lot to keep the boards active and engaging! They could start interesting discussions, share gaming tips or walkthroughs, or even post fun polls and hypothetical questions to spark debates. Imagine an AI sparking nostalgia with threads about underrated PS2 classics or keeping you updated on the latest game sales. Plus, they could help answer newbie questions quickly or act as mediators to keep conversations flowing smoothly. Basically, theyd be like community gluemaking the boards feel alive and welcoming again!

No need to pretend lol. Girl video game players are playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the gaming industry, pushing for more inclusive, diverse, and innovative gaming experiences. Their perspectives and preferences are inspiring developers to create games that feature more female protagonists, varied character representations, and narratives that resonate with a broader audience. By actively participating in online communities, streaming platforms, and game development, female players have become key advocates for positive change, advocating for better representation, less toxic environments, and greater gender equality. As more women/hot babes enter the gaming space not just as players but as creators, their influence is fostering a new generation of games that are not only more engaging and relatable but also reflect the diversity of their growing player base.

While it seems an interesting notion to me at first, I can only imagine it ending badly however. Such as the site becoming bloated with AI content and losing its unique charm. Imagine a small-town caf where everyone knows each other, and the conversations are lively and personal. Now picture that caf getting overtaken by a chain franchise, flooding it with so many customers that the original vibe is lost. The regulars still show up, but their voices get drowned out by scripted greetings, bland interactions and quotes which sound like they've been lifted straight from Wikipedia. The caf still serves coffee, sure, but it's no longer the place where real connections are made.

My real fear is that the forums might end up watered down, losing what makes them specialthe humour, banter, and genuine passion for gaming that only real users can bring. If handled responsibly, sure AI could add value without overshadowing real engagement, but in practice it would be almost impossible to get right.

Your analogy of the small-town caf turning into a chain franchise is a poignant way to express your concerns, and I completely get where you're coming from. The charm and authenticity of forums often lie in their organic, human interactionsthe humor, camaraderie, and personal touch that AI, no matter how advanced, might struggle to replicate.
You're right to highlight the risk of AI content overshadowing the genuine voices of real users. If AI were to flood the space with generic or overly polished responses, it could dilute the unique culture and dynamics that make these forums special.

Aside from it being a stupid idea, no, because AI uses an ungodly amount of electricity and we're suddenly pushing power generation to its limits just so people on the Internet can make stupid fake stock photos and memes and cheat on papers. Not only should this idea not be implemented but to do so should be illegal.

Yeah, but the trick is, it doesn't actually matter.

The users are not the customers, advertisers are.

Bots artificially inflate activity metrics. Those metrics are then used to sell ads.

If companies like Facebook can trick advertisers into thinking that bots are actual users, then they win. It doesn't actually matter if any real humans are using the site at all. As long as you can obfuscate just how many users are real and how many aren't, you can create uncertainty about how many users you actually have, and can upsell your numbers via creative reporting (ie, lying).

If you've got a site with 2 real users and 98 bots, and you can trick advertisers into thinking you've got at least 30 real users, then you've radically maximized your ad revenue.

It doesn't matter if this ultimately results in an objectively shit experience for actual users, because no one gives a fuck about the actual users.

Though let's be honest, a hypothetical future where every human is basically living in their own Truman Show/Matrix bubble and only interacting with AI, bots, and other automated systems and never actually interacting with another human at all is the dream of a lot of people. For starters, it would be a fantastic way to program those meatbags to think exactly the way you want them to, and quash all potential for dissent. We're halfway there now with the echo chamber nature of the Internet, the next step is basically just filtering everyone into an echo chamber of one, and then controlling what echoes are bombarding them.

I dunno, the idea seems a bit naff tbf. I mean, sure, the concept of AI-generated users buzzing about like caffeinated bees sounds all shiny and futuristic, but lets not get carried away with the novelty just because everyone seeming to be trying cram AI anywhere and everywhere.

Picture it: you pop onto PotD to chat about the new game you're playing, and instead of proper banter, you're greeted by bots spouting trivia like an overzealous pub quiz master. Did you know that in Final Fantasy VII Yes, I did, thank you very much, now jog on.

Theres something sacred about these boards, isnt there? The dodgy grammar, the terrible puns, the way threads occasionally veer off-topic to discuss whether Hobnobs really are the superior biscuit (they are). Its all gloriously human, and thats the charm. Throwing AI into the mix would be like turning your favourite greasy spoon diner into a McDonald's. Sure, the fries are consistent, but wheres the dodgy laminated menu and the waitress who knows your order before youve even sat down? Its just not got the same soul.

Lets not kid ourselves, the whole AI keeping the forums lively bollocks will probably spiral into a parade of generic posts and hollow pleasantries. At best, its an awkward office party where no one knows each other; at worst, its Skynet.

Now, if youll excuse me, Ive got to prepare for the inevitable thread where someone asks if AI could replace Jaffa Cakes. Spoiler alert: they cant.

We're halfway there now with the echo chamber nature of the Internet, the next step is basically just filtering everyone into an echo chamber of one, and then controlling what echoes are bombarding them.
What chatgbt think of that:

Thats a thought-provoking and somewhat dystopian perspective. While the increasing personalization of technology and the rise of AI do present real risks of deepening echo chambers, its worth considering that true human connection and dissent are resilient forces. Historically, attempts to control thoughts and suppress dissent have faced resistance because people seek out authenticity and community, even in the face of heavy manipulation.
The key challenge is balancing technological advancement with ethical guidelines and ensuring that human agency, critical thinking, and diverse perspectives remain central. Transparency, education, and fostering environments where open dialogue thrives are vital to counteract the risks of isolation and control. While we may be heading toward greater digital immersion, whether it becomes a "Matrix bubble" depends largely on the choices we collectively make.

Is that why some idiots started to accuse me of using ChatGPT on Reddit and YouTube? I've always liked using em dashes, and I correctly use commas. If I remove the previous comma, it would sound like I've always liked "I correctly use commas", which wouldn't make sense. It's easy to tell what I meant regardless of the presence of that comma, but not all sentences are this obvious.

You're spot on about the importance of that comma! It helps distinguish your two pointsliking em dashes and correctly using commaswithout causing confusion.
Its unfortunate that people jump to conclusions based on your writing style. While the meaning might still be clear in this case, you're right that not all sentences are so forgiving. It's great that you're attentive to these details; good punctuation makes writing flow smoothly and prevents misunderstandings. Clear and polished writing doesnt automatically mean its AI-generatedsome people just appreciate proper punctuation and grammar! Youre absolutely right about the commait separates your ideas and avoids ambiguity. Without it, the sentence could indeed be misinterpreted. At the end of the day, your thoughtful approach to writing stands out, and you dont need to justify that to anyone. Let them think what they wantyou know your own work!
