Jan 6 Some people died, some people were injured, many were evacuated. This was a highly controversial event and for the sake of the topic question I will specify what I believe happened.

Topic question is have other governing heads of state and/or chief executives tried to overthrow the government they were governing?

We have all been informed of the situation in South Korea and I would say there are simalarities but this came after

Is the burning of the Reichstag like it? I really do not want to credit Trump with a first. So historical events which are similar?

There was a very similar riot and aftermath in the 1934 French elections, complete with a political party downplaying it, calling it patriotic, and further paralyzing the French government at a time when it could scarcely afford to be. The legislature's investigation was high-profile and had plenty of findings, but it had no impact.

This one!!! Totally because the CP says it was a far right takeover attempt but the consensus of historians is

The consensus among scholars is that there was no concerted or unified design to seize power and that the leagues lacked the coherence, unity, or leadership to accomplish such an end."[3]

This makes it sound exactly like Jan 6. I biw to your scholarship.

Ah, so it needs to be a verifiable right-wing attempt to overthrow a government? Are there any other conditions?

It's the answer to your question. This situation isn't unique or exceptionally rare on a global scale, but it's the first time anything like it happened in the US.

This almost exact situation is happening in Brazil, but unlike us they have good judges in their courts to stop the fascist.

Its a list of coup attempts, successful or not. Trump is literally on that list.

2021 United States Capitol attack: President Donald Trump refused to concede to Joe Biden after losing the 2020 United States presidential election, leading, for the first time in at least 220 years, to a failure of the peaceful transition of power.[124][125][126] Supporters of the president stormed the Capitol building during the counting of electoral votes, and temporarily halted the process. Early the next morning the counting resumed and Joe Biden was confirmed as president, being inaugurated two weeks later.

It is not the far right attempting to take over. It is the far right attempting to take over and the bulk of hustorians looking back and saying it was just disorganized violence and none of the far right leaders were to blame.

Pretty sure, correct me if I am wrong, that Mr Trump has never been charged.

Burning of the Reichstag is similar but it was succesful so different.

For those of CE who were not paying attention in history class. The burning of the Reichstag had political significance because the fire chief was not allowed to put it out and because it discredited the German communist party. Even now Hitler's version is recounted as fact.

It just blows my mind that I am so brainwashed that I cannot see that political conservatives are just as prone to violence as anyone else if not more so.
