Neat, thanks for sharing. Never understood the hate for the timeline, it's not complex at all especially compared to the likes of metal gear, plus the debates just showed that fans cared about the lore.

the timeline is there for those of us who enjoy it but people who dont an just enjoy the games standalone can (thoe games like wind waker suffer if you dont care to view it as a sequel to OoT)

Is caring about the zelda timeline a thing in the zelda fandom?

My only issue with the timeline is it's dumb that there's a "What if Link failed" continuity.

Because it's not a timeline thing. Why isn't there a "what if link failed?" For every game?

I'm just not into what ifs in general, I guess.

At least, not as major installments. They did it with Battle Network, and I was more or less of with that because it doesn't really split or branch anywhere; it's just like what if Mega Man was about Network avatars instead of robots?

the video addresses that and it was kinda the best bad option they had

the video also made me realize another pass over wind wakers story could have fixed this problem

this is what id have done back when wind waker was being written

not make it a sequel to OoT but set it after zelda 2 and have its back story focus on the idea a hero clad in green has always shown up to stop ganon but did not this time

stuff would have to be reworked in game but over all its basic plot would work out mostly the same

obviously they could not do that after the fact hince why i said look the story over again in the writing phase

isn't it "what if the hero won"/"what if the hero lost" for the timelines, indicating one version of Link?

and the others we play, whether the Hero wins/loses are usually not the Hero?

I guess they could have splintered timelines for the other games, but they only have so many titles out right now.

Not a fan of the fallen hero monkey wrench either.
Prefer to embrace the clear intention of the adult/child games, the fallen hero games just being their own thing/legends, and BotW games being their own thing/reboot.

Because they haven't made those games so it's not worth acknowledging

Its one thing to dislike the timeline but it was always a sure thing, particularly the split timeline ever since Wind Waker. The intro explicitly discusses the events of OoT and what occurred after the Hero was sent back through time, and obviously with Majoras Mask being a direct follow up to OoT the split is 100% certain. To deny its existence is just silly.

if a person dont like it thats fine the games are made in a way that you can ignore it (thoe as i said some games are hurt if you do that but wtv floats your boat)

lmao this whole video is literally just a 25 minute advertisement to a two minute soapbox to complain about what are the two best games in the series. Should have known that's where this was going.

Yeah tbh I don't like how people don't take pride in their likes anymore. Demanding care from the creators shouldn't be something looked down upon. If the devs don't care about the lore and actively believe canon is holding them back then they need to quit and let someone else write. I see this across several ips so it's not just Zelda that suddenly has low writing standards.

I'm a form believer that restrictions bring the best out of a creative individual.

hell if they want to do a full on reboot that would be 100% fine

but they dont as breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are full of nostalgia bait for the older games

also tears of the kingdom does not even really fallow the lore of breath of the wild

breath of the wild with the way aonuma talked about it after release

it sounded like they did have a timeline placement and had planned to reveal it a few months after release

but then alot more people where discussing the lore and stuff than normal

so he decided that for now they would hold off on telling people let them debate and discuss it and they would reveal this when it was more relevant (personally i think downfall made the most sense)

where as tears of the kingdom it feels like they did not care at all

again if they just want to do a full reboot that is 100% fine but they arnt doing that
