Loathe as I am to say it, IIRC Elon had his flasks on the quickbar thing in ER, which very arguably is optimal depending on how much you're using other consumables (which he wasn't, lmao). Of course the way the rest of his build was set up was dogshit, but it was within reason for someone new to Souls games that doesn't really know what they're doing.

I'm a huge fan of him being in the end game areas with 31 vig and a soreseal equipped. I just know he got vig-checked constantly and tried to use heavier armor to compensate.

One of the videos I watched had the actual clips of him and hearing him talk is what made me know he was full of shit. He likes to play up his autism angle when criticised about shit sometimes, but everyone has heard him talk about things he knows about before. I saw people talking about this one specifically. Apparently these gloves are nigh-on best in slot, but he is was complaining that they were low level.

I feel really dirty saying this, but I can kind of see where he's coming from (Ewwwww). Always feels wrong in a game when the best in slot gear is a much lower level than the max you can equip.

As a quick off the top of my head example, the Haubergeon body armor in FFXI. Level 59 gear for your DD who was at 75. Think there was 1 or 2 pieces that were better depending on your class but those were extremely rare and took a linkshell to obtain. Wasn't until the level cap raise when there was a lvl 78 piece that finally surpassed it.

The rabbit charm in FFXI was like a level 4 item BIS for level 75 at one point.

There was a shitty green ring in vanilla WoW that was a quest reward for a shit quest that most people just chucked it immediately. It was actually BIS for tanking Ragnaros.
