That does suck in hindsight, but at the time going back to Kanto was so mind blowing.

Speaking of Rock Tunnel, I didn't know about flash during my first play through and I stumbled through the whole thing blind. Took forever, but as a kid you have whole lot more time and patience.

I still do that now lol. In Gen 1, you can still see the outlines of all the walls and it's mostly a one-way with no items. It's not worth using a subpar HM permanently just for 1 cave >_>

They adapted the story to fit the limitations of the cartridge.

cennabar was wiped out by the volcano that was not there

Also Lavender Tower, Cerulean Cave, and the Power Plant (sort of).

I didn't realize how much was cut that made it back in HeartGold.

Of course it is. They're best pokemon games ever made.

They fixed nearly everything I listed. Has a Safari Zone (it's in Johto though. The one in Kanto is the Pal Park for GBA transfers iirc), has Viridian Forest, has Cerulean Cave, has Seafoam Islands, has a bigger Mt. Silver. I forget if Pewter Museum is there, but I *think* it is because you can find fossils by rock smashing rocks.

LOL I forgot that Rock Tunnel even has its own flying location in GSC too.

Man, did they really think people would love going to Rock Tunnel so much that they made it flyable? >_>

It wasnt in Gen 1. Neither is the isolated Pokemon Center by Union Cave in Johto.

The gen 2 devs just really really love Rock Tunnel for some reason >_>

The level curve is fucked. Don't train up more than a team of 4 through Johto.

Most of the things mentioned in this topic did get added back in.

Cinnabar Island is still destroyed and Mt. Moon is slimmed down like in GSC. But the remakes added: Seafoam Islands, Cerulean Cave, Viridian Forest and a Safari Zone (in Johto). They also gave Blaine and Blue a proper gym with trainers.

Hands up if you could navigate rock tunnel without using flash. I remember there was a trick to it.

They absolutely should have included Kanto. Top 10 gaming moment for me was realizing I was going back to Kanto.

The biggest problem Kanto presented was laying the expectations for future gens that I'd get to revisit past regions and it never happened again.

Taking Kanto out wouldve at least forced them into putting the Johto pokemon in Johto.

I actually have Heartgold along with the Pokwalker accessory (though I think the battery might have started corroding by this point since kid me never thought about taking it out and I only just thought about it now) from when I bought it with my allowance money back in middle school. If only I had a working power cell battery for my 3DS that would hold a charge without being constantly plugged in to the wall outlet, Id play the heck outta it since I loved both it and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

Only one I was mad about was the cerulean cave. I wanted to catch Mewtwo!

I looked it up and you can rematch him in the Indigo Plateau on Mondays and Wednesdays in the GSC version. Neat!

Yeah my exact thoughts. It was fun for a bit, but the sheer amount of grinding you gotta do to get a decent prize is too much. Plus iirc I dont think you can even buy coins in the US version, right?
