Earlier in the week I had searched if there are any Godfather screenings in theaters near me. I'd gotten lucky with Goodfellas last month and I got even luckier this time. Yesterday I watched the whole trilogy in a packed theater. Everyone was super into it. Most people stayed for the whole thing. It was almost 11 hours altogether with 20 minute intermissions in between the movies. The third one was the "Coda" version.

I'd never seen the first in full but knew about a lot of the scenes from pop culture references. I never saw the second or third at all.

I don't think I could sit for 11 hours for anything.

Spending 12 straight hours in a theater sounds like hell, personally

I did it got an MCU Phase 1 marathon leading into the premiere of the first Avengers movie. Was packed all day, and was the best theater experience I've ever had. Was such a fun time.

The writing and plot was quite convoluted. I was continually confused in ways where I wasn't sure I was supposed to be confused, as opposed to the first two where it felt like there were mysteries but I was thinking along with the main characters. I could tell there was a drop-off in the quality of shots and scenes. It's like the angles were subtly off. And as for themes, they got real heavy-handed. They spammed the oranges/orange juice thing and it lost all subtlety.

I did not think it was a horrid move per se, but in the context of the Godfather universe it was unsettlingly wacky in certain aspects. I did feel bad because the crowd largely seemed to take it less seriously. Which I get based on its reputation, but I was trying to be objective. There were a lot of laughs, yelling quotes, and scoffs, which admittedly I did when Michael's old Sicilian bodyguard kills the guy by stabbing him in the neck his own eyeglasses.

I was engaged and so were most people. It was wonderful seeing an extended masterpiece in the theater with other people who appreciated the opportunity. There was applause after all three films (which felt a bit corny, especially after the first) and I was able to go outside for food during intermission. If I wasn't so primed, yes, it would have been hard, but I'm able to do this sort of thing, especially since the whole theater was packed and engaged and I didn't feel alone in that.

What made you do that? Is this an anniversary year that they'd get the prints out and do a marathon?

No, I've been watching a lot of mafia shows and movies lately because I have access to them in ways I never before had. I watched the Sopranos after I got HBO Max, then I found that Goodfellas was doing a midnight showing near me. And this week I looked up the Godfather because I'd never seen it in full and wanted to see if it was showing at any theaters near me. Lo and behold, there was a screening of the whole trilogy just two days later. I don't know the last time that's happened.

Two, one after the first two movies. There's actually a built-in intermission during Part II but they didn't use it. Someone got up and then ran back to their seat.
