That line of thinking is exactly how Trump got a lot of voters

"Well nothing he did affected me so he's better than Kamala!" even through it did affect them, we are a dumb species that doesn't believe in anything if it's not physically in front of us it's why we have flat earthers

Unless you're talking about God or Haitians eating dogs and cats.

America allegedly voted an emperor into office who's also a climate change denier so things aren't going to get better any time soon on that front.

To be a tiny bit sympathetic, or at least attempt to understand people who have trouble putting this together -

It's hard for human beings to prioritise important but not urgent issues, especially if 1) you have urgent AND important issues to deal with first, 2) you have urgent (but maybe not important) issues screaming at you all the time demanding attention, and 3) the important but not urgent issue is in some way abstract or difficult to gauge in scale.

I should really prioritise my pension. Instead I am always thinking about this month's bills and whether I'll be able to afford to go to that restaurant everyone else is going to next week. My phone is busted, I need to replace that. My clothes are getting tired. My car needs a service.

And right there at the back of my mind is the threat of entering my elderly years with very little money to basically survive, and yet...I rarely think about it.

If I struggle with that, I can understand why others struggle with prioritising climate change.

I've learned a bit from talking with some of them a while back. A few seem to have a serious trepidation about things essentially being too grand on scale, too complex and unseen. Sounds a bit like people afraid of the ocean, except with a lot more denial.

This. Its more an out of sight, out of mind, thing than not caring. It really shouldnt be a surprise that for most people, trans rights arent really on their radar at all if they dont know a trans person (and statistically, they dont, as thats 1% of the population).

But this is also purposefully engineered as a divide and conquer tactic by the elites. It all harkens back to LBJs quote along the lines of if you can convince the poorest white man hes better than the best colored man, hell empty his pockets for you. Theyve convinced poor white people that their problems are because of minorities (whether its mpMexicans taking our herbs! or gay people marrying or trans women in womens sports or whatever), and theyre so distracted by that culture war bullshit they dont notice themselves getting fucked over.
