This seems like a dumb idea. If they wanted to "expand the universe" of Until Dawn then why don't they just make another game? Isn't the whole reason that game was so successful because it's a cinematic video game where you get to control the characters and make the choices? Are fans of the game looking forward to a movie titled "Until Dawn" that has fuck all to do with the game they played?

So it's Groundhog Day but horror.

Happy Death Day was pretty good, IMO

I mean, given that the draw of the game is knowing that different choices affect the outcome, and you can replay it several times to get several different versions of the story, then doing a Groundhog Day style movie actually... kinda makes sense.

Yeah, I've seen them both second-hand. I'm not suggesting it's a bad concept, just an odd approach. I understand they don't want to remake the game into a movie because it would just be a much shorter version of the game itself with very specific deaths, while the Groundhog Day approach lets the multiple choice deaths be shown off. So, maybe I don't think it's too odd of an approach.

I like David S Sandberg. I'll give it a go even if it might suck.

This sounds like a good attempt at "replaying" the game with different endings and people dying. I'll keep an open mind about it. Was hoping it would be more like Clue and just have slightly different scenes and different endings and you wouldn't know what you were getting.

So, did they just have some generic horror movie script laying around that they decided to slap the "Until Dawn" name on?

It looks pretty solid from that. I also think that the time gimmick is an alright enough way to emulate the game.

But all things considered, it does feel weirdly not like the game at all. I feel like just flat out ignoring UD's setting is a big miss, it was one of its most distinctive elements with the snowy cabin and the surrounding areas being a fantastic horror setting.

It also seems to more or less ignore the UD cast for the most part when it'd be rather easy to emulate it, if not outright get the original actors back since the characters were modeled after them anyway.

Ultimately I agree that this feels like an unrelated script that they stapled UD's name to. Could be a solid movie at least, it didn't look too bad from the trailer.

It doesn't look like Until Dawn (apart from the clown mask cameo), but it does look pretty good tbf.

I think the thing is they didn't want to just make the game into the movie.

Fair enough, I suppose. It just feels weird to do a movie adaptation of a game that feels so actively different from the game, doubly so when the setup is basically already made to be a horror movie.

But hey, I'll root for the thing. The trailer honestly did intrigue me.
