I preferred the infinite ammo approach, but only because I liked playing sniper in ME1 so when ME2/3 turned the sniper rifle into a special mission-only weapon that gets like 5 bullets I was highly disappointed because my entire preferred playstyle was effectively downgraded to a killstreak.

I preferred nearly every aspect of ME1 over the sequels.

Honestly prefered the ammo type. I like having to reload.

Andromeda has its faults but being able to mod any gun to have heat sinks and change them to full or semi auto was a great system.

Infinite ammo was at least a change from the generic shooter formula. Wish they had stuck with it... I wonder if there's a mod that changes it on the PC version.

The sniper isn't a special mission only weapon in ME2 if you're an Infiltrator or Soldier, you have them right from the jump, and the other classes can pick them up as a bonus later. All classes can use all weapons in ME3 so everyone can snipe.

ME1 where the infinite ammo but if it over heated you could reload the heat sink and fire again faster than cool down.
Best of both worlds that way.

In me2, you get one as an infiltrator but the mantis comes with a nine bullet max ammo count. The widow caps at 13. The viper is the only one that lets you bring more than a dozen or so bullets into the fight, and that's because it's a semi automatic hybrids sniper. Maybe the DLC guns are better, but I wouldn't know.

Me3 isn't much better. the black widow comes with a max ammo capacity of 15, the javelin gets 9, etc.

None of that is "special mission only weapon" though?

And those ammo counts are fine, if you're even halfway decent at the game you should literally never run out.

I've done more playthroughs as a sniper-primary Infiltrator and almost never had ammo issues. Almost every enemy drops a clip when they die so after nearly every firefight you can easily get back to max ammo.

Now granted I nearly always play on Normal, so maybe it's an issue on Insanity.

I was mistaken on the mission only part - I was confusing snipers (class locked) with heavy weapons.

BUT... when your max ammo carry capacity is 9 you can't really say you can use it as your primary weapon. Even if you get a headshot and oneshot every enemy, 9 bullets isn't going to clear a mission. You end up hoarding them for bosses rather than actually using your sniper the entire time. Now, google says they eventually drastically increased ammo drop rate in re-releases, so your experience might not have been the same on mine since I played it on release on the 360.

I played on release and never had ammo issues, my man, and I used the sniper as my primary almost exclusively.

So yeah, I can say I used it as my primary - because I did. You just pick up more clips!
