Using "females" to refer to human women in everyday speak has never been normal. Until recently it's pretty much only been used in scientific and animal-related contexts.

Wow, look at all these females

Im going to ask that female over there for a date

I talked to a female yesterday

Can you really say stuff like that out loud and not feel like Weird? At best it makes you sound like some sort of cartoon scientist, but most people are just going to assume youre a weird incel or something

To be honest you'll sound weird saying any of those sentences regardless of the type of noun you use

It's more specifically weird when people use "females" to describe women and do not use "males" to describe men
Yeah

Like if you use "female" for women but man, men, bro, dude, whatever to describe men and not "male" then it's weird

It's definitely been a thing for quite a while. The entire reason for the argument is because it existed and was so normal. It's just that now ppl are trying to stamp it out. Same thing happened with calling everything "gay".

This is not a new issue. It's been sexist, reductive, and demeaning for a long time.

I remember that time. It was so dumb, as well as offensive to actual gay people.

That's because no one uses it in the same context as the word females.

I don't feel like reading this topic, so someone tell me if my assumption is correct.

Several people explained the exact rationale in very basic terms, and TC and a couple other people went

and declared victory because their ignorance remains intact?

Close.

I actually got the answer pretty early on and concluded I should have figured.

Then the topic went on for a trillion posts anyway.

thats literally the issue. Many people who say female instead of woman notably dont use the term male when talking about men the same way.

If they use both male and female always, then okay. If you say men and females then thats strange.

that one is a bit wierd if it stops there.
however if it goes "i talked to a woman yesterday and she said...." that's completely normal
and in contrast "i talked to a female yesterday and she said...." is also wierd as hell
