I set up some Edifier speakers and connected them directly to the TV with an optical cable. No sound at all no matter what I tried. Looked online and found an idea. TV Menu - Sound - Expert Settings - Digital Output - change from Dolby to PCM. It worked! I even said in my hacker voice, "I'm in." *lol* It made me feel like I was MacGyver. :D ... As someone heavily into Home Theatre and audio/video I got a chuckle out of this. I bought a new top end Yamaha AVR just this last week and swapped it out on Saturday. I was getting a new display Monday and needed a new AVR that did HDMI 2.1 and would pass a 4K/8K signal, 120fps, VRR, all that modern stuff yada yada so I spent a good chunk of Sunday calibrating my speakers and subwoofer after putting in the new AVR and swapping out all the cables and switching it over. --- PSN ID: sled_dogs76 60" Pioneer Kuro Elite PRO151FD, Yamaha RX-V3900 A/V Receiver, Oppo DV983-H player.
