I set up some Edifier speakers and connected them directly to the TV with an optical cable.

No sound at all no matter what I tried.

Looked online and found an idea.

TV Menu - Sound - Expert Settings - Digital Output - change from Dolby to PCM.

It worked!

I even said in my hacker voice, "I'm in." *lol*

It made me feel like I was MacGyver. :D

As someone heavily into Home Theatre and audio/video I got a chuckle out of this. I bought a new top end Yamaha AVR just this last week and swapped it out on Saturday. I was getting a new display Monday and needed a new AVR that did HDMI 2.1 and would pass a 4K/8K signal, 120fps, VRR, all that modern stuff yada yada so I spent a good chunk of Sunday calibrating my speakers and subwoofer after putting in the new AVR and swapping out all the cables and switching it over.

Yeah, I don't have a clue what PCM means and I could care less.
