I did leave out Prodigy. I have not seen a good amount of Star Trek but from my introduction to the fandom Prodigy is one of the least well received shows so I felt safest leaving it off of this list. So far I have watched the moves, TOS, TNG and DS9. I am about halfway through Voyager as well. I think DS9 is the best but I love TNG and really enjoyed the original series as well. I am curious what people think of the other shows because Voyager has been difficult for me to enjoy and Im hoping that one of the other shows will snag my interest. I would put DS9 against nearly any show though. One of the GOATs. ... Copied to Clipboard!

DS9, but Lower Decks got really close. SNW is also close. We'll see if it can keep it up for another few years. It's tough to compare the current shows to the 90s shows because of how many more episodes the old shows put out. Is a [9 excellent and 1 average episode] season better or worse than a [16 exellent 6 decent 3 average and 1 bad episode] season? --- I apologize for nothing! ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have not seen any new Trek at all, but am curious how much filler there is on the newer episodes. TNG might have ranked as high or higher than DS9 if not for the amount of episodes I ended up not liking But some of the episodes were so incredible I wonder if the new shows can hit the same quality. Measure of a Man, I Borg, Family, The Inner Light were some of the best episodes that even DS9 didnt really top necessarily, TNG was just kind of wildly inconsistent. Not to say that the best episodes of DS9 dont hold up to TNG because they are just as good. ... Copied to Clipboard!

[LFAQs-redacted-quote] Far Beyond The Stars and The Visitor for me. I cried during both. The Visitor as a father especially Far Beyond The Stars was my favorite episode of anything Trek though. The way he has that nervous breakdown at the end was epic. And I usually dont like Star Trek episodes where they do the time travel/parallel universe stuff as much but DS9 always nailed it. ... I would have left off The Animated Series, as it was very much just a continuation of The Original Series, whereas each of the other shows have a more distinct identity. Not to say that TAS doesn't have some things that set it apart, but it's still primarily the same characters having the same sort of adventures, just without the worry of how to figure out the special effects. To answer the question though, DS9 is definitely my favorite. I love the characters, I love the ongoing plotlines, the changing allegiances, the character growth, I just love so much about it. If I ever get the chance to write for Star Trek, I would definitely be trying to follow up on some stuff from it. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I prefer DS9, but I wonder if the argument could be made that it wouldn't be as good without the foundation of TNG. Like it deconstructs a lot of the Federation society and stuff, so I don't know that it'd hit as hard if you didn't watch the series that played it straight. --- https://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif https://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif https://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif So? pegusus123456 posted... I prefer DS9, but I wonder if the argument could be made that it wouldn't be as good without the foundation of TNG. And it's not just things like the themes. The story of DS9 is so much built on the Bajorans and the Cardassians, each of which were introduced in TNG, initially as one-off species for a single episode. And while the Borg don't appear in DS9 past the first episode, their existence also plays a big part in DS9, with Sisko's backstory, and related to that the design of the Defiant. The whole era of TNG, DS9, Voyager were great for that connectivity with the overlap in production (seasons 1-2 of DS9 alongs 6-7 of TNG, then 3-7 of DS9 alongside 1-5 of Voyager, with the first 3 TNG movies also being mixed in there) and the fact they were all set in the same era. The modern shows, despite having more shows running at once, haven't overlapped in when they are set. Lower Decks and Prodigy are close, both being in the 2380s, but are still a couple years apart. Strange New Worlds is in the 2250s following up from the first two seasons of Discovery, but only started up after Discovery went to another time. I think part of this was to allow each show a bit more creative freedom in stuff, like if a big event happens in one, it doesn't need to be referenced in another (outside of some especially big things, when relevant), but it does mean we don't get as much of that connectivity which can lead to cool things. Like the Maquis being introduced in TNG and DS9 to set up Voyager, and then ending up being in some ways more relevant to DS9. ... Copied to Clipboard!
