I actually would like to know, with no judgements, why they voted for him. The people you get who hint at it though(here, on CE) are generally the kind of trolls who act like they will be banned if they explain or elaborate. Nobody is getting banned for going "I feel trump will be better at the southern border than Harris"

But no, I legitimately would be interested, without judgement.

Ive seen screen shots of shitter and facebook of individuals going "hey i'm not so sure any more" and before the tarrifs were paused, some were really questioning what the goal was, why we're doing this.

But I have yet to see anybody roll up to a comment section, of a person directly saying they voted for him and they regret it. Ive seen 2/3 and 1/3 election Trump voters express regret, but no 3/3 or anybody who voted this time. I know part of that is because they would get steamrolled in the comments. But I offer no judgement.

Hi. Not a trump voter but I had a three hour chat with one. I have a great audio memory and while that was the dumbest conversation I've had in a long time. It highlighted the average voter for me. So, ask your questions and I'll answer you in their tone.

Note: I am Canadian and I was like you. I wanted to know their thinking.

Edit to add: Things I've asked the Trump group. Electronics will be expensive, you know that? Why would you vote for a felon? Why do you think Harris is awful but not Trump? Why would you think companies would come back to America? Why do you think America is self sufficient? They asked me what the number one mineral America doesn't have a lot of that they would need. The answer for them is copper. I can't name one because my background is an engineer and that's the not the main. But okay.

I understand that most people don't want to do this, and I kinda leave one off comments(with tact) and have not had this big conversation yet.

But people like Daryl Davis, a black man famous known for talking with the Klan directly, has gotten a lot of them to convert their views by at first appearing as a curious man, wanting to know. Then, they elaborate, but he doesn't speak. He listens. Once he lets them talk and the barriers are down, then he comes in, still with tact and opens up to them, and from there, since the walls have come down because everybody was able to speak without hostility, good has a chance to prevail.

Now I know, a lot of people see the situation we're in, which is a direct result of Trump voters and wanting to go "Fuck you!" and have no conversation or just fuck you being the conversation.

I just think having an open conversation can be productive, I realize it's not for everybody, and I also admit I have yet to have this moment IRL or online.

None of my coworkers have expressed disappointment yet. They genuinely think Trump, and now Musk, are geniuses who are doing good things and you have no right to be angry at them for securing our borders.

I don't think it's a good idea for them to say so right now. I wouldn't treat them any differently, but I don't speak for everyone. They'd lose a lot of respect and once it's gone it's difficult to earn it back.

I just hope any that did vote for him did so because they genuinely believed he would improve things, and not for other reasons.

Also, hopefully they recognize the damage being done too, but that's a different discussion entirely, and is happening about 50 times over on this board.

I have disagreed with people on here before and never walked away thinking that they were stupid before. So would like to hear from a non stupid person.

I made the mistake of reading the comments under a Forbes youtube video yesterday.

The people there seem to believe that Trump and Musk tearing apart the government is a *good* thing. It's what they want. They think that the government is just corrupt, and wastes money, and unfairly went after Trump, and it all deserves to be broken with a sledgehammer.
It's utter insanity.

I think I saw that video but I didn't listen as I had no interest in what Karoline Leavitt had to say. But I did read the comments, and oof.

The thing is, i get on the basic level, a need to check what the government is funding and honestly ask if we need it or not. But these people are being hoodwinked every step of the way. Musk has some ultimate goal here, AOC said it's to get money to fund something they want, whatever the goal is, he isn't eliminating "DEI ballet in Ireland" as part of USAID to lower your taxes. He's doing it for some ultimate goal beyond us peons.

They've spent so much time talking about the George Soros shadow billionaire, for so long, they forgot what to do if he stepped out from the shadows and visibly went to work. I learned about fascism in history school and voted against it three times.

I can deal with this, and offer honest alternatives like Pete Buttigieg. I don't go this route only because I don't know how to respond to people with hatred behind it all and I don't know how I'd react with a super MAGA Q conspiracy person. Like, I've told people before about transgender surgeries in prison, if you have no idea what they're on about, don't engage because they're playing with a stacked deck. You will lose. But I just know that, I haven't been in that situation yet.

But a normal, rational conversation would be nice. But if I haven't even had one with my mom yet I don't know.

This is all a lot of talk, but to me the idea is interesting

It's gonna be hard to have a rational conversation with someone who has irrational thoughts. And the people who just really haven't been paying attention and thought he was just gonna shake things up or believed him when he said he would stop inflation aren't going to be in conservative spaces, or really anywhere discussing politics. Those are the people you're just gonna have to run into in the grocery store or something.
