It's not so much a series that other people dislike but rather one that everyone else just seems to ignore, but I genuinely think that the Dungeons series is the most slept-on franchise out there at the moment. I mean, it's Dungeon Keeper with added RTS sections, and the plot of the most recent game was essentially Baby Yoda Vs Infinity Gauntleted Thanos - what's not to love?

In terms of games that people actively dislike that I enjoyed, I thought The Outbound Ghost had some amazing gameplay. The story literally doesn't finish, but on a purely gameplay level the mix of Paper Mario and Pokmon was really satisfying.

Boom Blox games for Wii

This was an amazing game. Weirdly, I think it was actively hindered by having a low price when it came out - the combo of a budget price, cartoony boxart, and a name that made it sound like a Net Yaroze game gave the impression that it was bargain bucket shovelware, but it really wasn't.

Mega Man 7
Mega Man and Bass

Honestly enjoy both of them. 7 feels a bit clunky compared to some of the nes games, but it's not as bad as some make it out to be. The sprite work is immaculate, the music is fantastic, and I honestly love exploring the implications of the ending. I wish 8 didn't just basically ignore it.

Mega Man and Bass is a noticeable step up in difficulty. You get challenged right from the start, and it's clear the game expects a lot from the player. I will say though that I completely understand why this game rubs people the wrong way if they only played the gba version. Not only is it harder to dash with Bass, but the screen crunch is genuinely unfair difficulty in a already difficult game (The gba version was the one I played so...).

I love both games to death. Hopefully one day MM&B will get released again some day. Just fix the screen crunch.

All we need is just to have the GBA official localization slapped on the SNES version we never got. I went through the game multiple times on a SNES emulator and I never had major problems with the required platforming there. Why we never got this game as a digital 14.99 cent download or the game slapped into the mega man legacy collection 2 I have no idea.

I think this game got a lot of undeserved hate because people were butthurt over the end of ME3. While there were legitimate problems with animations or things like that, I felt it was unfair to compare squadmate development from game vs three. I've seen it pointed out that for all the love Garus and Tali get, they are nothing but edgy cop who doesn't play by the rules and walking encyclopedia in the first game.

But on topic and related, I really enjoyed Fallout 76. One of those games I couldn't play before work because it was easy for me to just screw around in and lose track of time.

Streets of rage 3 unfortunately failed at the one main thing that made the 1st 2 games famous (especially part 2)....it's music.

I do agree the actual gameplay part is better in everyway (I feel the same for golden axe 3 compared to the first 2 games on the genesis), but even I can't get into streets of rage 3's music like that. Even has a 11 year old in 1994 I was all like "what happen to the music?", lol. I do like that shinobi reference theme though.
I can't lie and say the sor3 ost is better than sor1 or 2. It probably isn't but I really like it even still. Tracks like cycle 1 and 2, Inga rasen, The Poets I , Fuze and imho Happy paradise is really good. But it's not easy to come off the likes of Go Straight, dreamer, expander, never return alive and.. well hell basically anything from the first 2 games

People saying FF8 are insane, lol. Its like saying your favourite obscure movie is Donnie Darko. I think more people talk shit about it these days in FF discussions but it is very popular.

People have been calling it a bad game for quite a while, I remember a lot of people at school saying it was bad back in 99 - 00. I would call it more "infamous" then popular.

I will agree that I see a lot of people who like it. But I have yet to meet a ton of people who don't give me crap for liking 2.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

There was a cool game in there, under the bad controls and weird glitches. It still has one of the most ambitious engines I've ever seen. It was a lite fighter, a lite shooter, a lite rail shooter, a lite driver and a lite hovercraft sim all in one, and it even has a cool hacking minigame. And honestly, most of it was fun if you could get past the jank. They did a good job of letting you stumble up on cool mechanics, too, like did you know you can throw enemies with a gun equipped and it's an instant kill? Or focus disarms being an instant kill all the time with Ghost and about half the time with Niobe? Did you know you could do backflips in hand to hand mode? There are a ton of little hidden things like that.

I probably played it through at least six times, lol.

Final Fantasy VIII
I think it's a pretty love or hate title rather than one that nobody likes. Anyway, I effin love this game. I'm not gonna pretend that it's better by conventional measures than 7 or 4, but it just struck a perfect chord with me as someone who was decidedly anti- that 90's edge that it was making fun of and also happened to have almost exactly the same struggle as Squall.

I must have played this one through at least five times, lol.

mega man x6
To me, X6 should have been good. If it had had more time in the oven, it honestly could have been the best game in the series. It has by far the coolest setting (except ZX) and giving X the Z-Saber was just perfect. It also has several moments of brilliance among its stage design, in spite of also having moments of horrendousness. Gate was a cool villain, the Zero Nightmare was a cool villain, I even loved that they had multiple criteria for unlocking the endgame, each with its own unique cutscene. But they really dropped the ball in the implementation.

Yeah happy paradise is my favorite track from the game. Shinobi reverse was the one I was thinking of earlier and you know what I like the dance club also. Percussion was cool. The mona and lisa boss theme also goes hard.

I wouldn't say streets of rage 3's ost was flat out bad, but its definitely a different experimental thing.

In the end music plays a huge factor with streets of rage's identity. I believe that is why streets of rage 4 ended up successful since yuzo koshiro and everyone else that contributed to the ost went back to the style that made part 1 and 2 work all those years ago. *Its also noticeable that when you enable the retro OST in the option menu there is not a single SOR3 track in the game. Nothing but SOR1 and 2 music.......poor SOR3, lol.*

Mega Man 7
Mega Man and Bass
7 is kinda bad... It wanted so badly to be an X game without actually being an X game. It even brought up the dumb Asimov law thing from X in a context in which it clearly doesn't apply. Honestly, I think if they had dropped that and titled it Mega Man VI, I would have liked it more. I'm weird like that.

But &B is a marvelous game. The only thing is the GBA port is total garbage. I always thought it was "ok I guess" until I played the SFC original, which is actually one of my favorites in the series. You really don't realize just how much the GBA resolution hurt the game until you play it in its original resolution.

Mine are more just obscure/forgotten, but:

Rescue: The Embassy Mission (titled Hostages on other platforms) is one of my very favorite NES games. I feel like this was something of a hit way back, since I found a copy on my first try at GameStop in the '00s, but for whatever reason nobody seems to remember it. Anyway, the game was killer. It was one of the first competent side-scrolling stealth games (honestly, I like it more than the modern ones and probably even Metal Gear 1 even though that one was top down) AND one of the first console FPS games, and it even had a cool arcade style uncommon for the genre. The sniping and rappelling parts were admittedly kinda janky though.

The Journeyman Project Turbo (not Pegasus Prime!) was my first point n clock adventure, and to this day it blows the entire rest of the genre out of the water in my book. Gameplay tested your judgment abilities more than your puzzle solving skills, and had a supercool sci-fi world with time travel and teleporters and robots and stuff, as well as some of the best atmosphere of the 90's. This is another one that seems like it was big at the time but nobody talks about anymore. It got a remake and two sequels with increasingly high budgets, so somebody played it. I just don't know who. Pegasus Prime isn't bad or anything (actually, it's exactly how you do a remake, unlike this frame-for-frame identical bullshit they get away with today) but I just fell in love with the original exactly the way it was, lol.

I think people who were invested in the property's story/lore were most disappointed, with other complaints including how dang empty the world is and how the story is pretty unfinished.

Pretty much everything about this game is and feels unfinished.

It's especially disappointing when GZ was so good. TPP didn't come anywhere close to the level of detail of its own prologue. And I don't just mean polish--the base in GZ was actually designed as a level instead of a hundred billion square miles of empty desert/jungle with a few thoughtless clumps of buildings every now and then. Enemies have actual schedules, and do things that make sense instead of of wandering around. These things change based on which mission you're on.

They basically took less detail than was in GZ and spread it over about a hundred times as much world in TPP.

I think most of the Internet sees it as "that game with the impossible dam level" which isn't really fair because the dam is one of the easiest parts of the game.
