I haven't watched it yet because the main voice actor outed himself as a chud, am I missing anything good?

I was actually a bit interested in watching this series until he made that stupid comment, now I'm not watching it out of spite.

It's decent. Nothing too grand so far. But it's enjoyable.

What do we think of the animation so far? I don't know if I like the style.

It's been over 15 years but I can't get over Spectacular Spiderman being canceled, that show was still the best ever. And it doesn't help that every subsequent spiderman show they released after it was pure drivel.

If Spectacular Spider-man hadn't got canceled early, it could have given Batman TAS a run for it's money. The creators had so much stuff planned including some DTVs that would have taken place during Peter's college years. Including a potential adaptation of The Night Gwen Stacy died.

Ultimate Spider-man was the only Spider-man cartoon I watched after SSM. And the majority of the time, it didn't even feel like a Spider-man show. It felt more of a Spider-man team up series where the focus is less on Spidey and his life and more around him working with random super heroes while also dealing with being a lackey for S.H.I.E.L.D. Whereas Spider-man TAS and SSM also focused on Peter's life outside of being Spider-man. Like helping Aunt May with her struggles, love triangles etc. Heck most of the time he wasn't even fighting his own villains.

This, it really odd how they seem to be keeping a lot of the "main MCU" storylines the same but is making Spider-Man so different. Also was hoping to get old lady May back.

The Tombstone show is pretty good. Seriously I didn't expect the C list Spider-Man villain Tombstone to be protagonist along side Peter and have as much focus. It was a choice.

Yeah ultimate spiderman came right after spectacular and it... was exclusively aimed at a younger audience. I remember checking a couple episodes before noping out.

Josh Keaton was/still is the best spiderman voice actor.

early 2010s was this weird time when a lot of quality cartoons came out and were just as quickly canceled. We lost Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Young Justice, aforementioned spectacular spiderman... I bet they would have found success today with the explosion of superhero properties in mid 2010s. Although maybe not with how ridiculously awful animation is now because billion dollar studios are too cheap to shell out a couple more bucks for quality hand drawn animation (like I get that it's expensive, but billion dollar studios like Disney, Warner Bros and Amazon have no excuse)

My only theory is that the west (more specifically USA) corps have a lot of disdain over animations. They already try to end them by making a lot of channels be a sitcom fiesta anyway.

It's less they don't like animation and more they base animations success on toy sales. And IIRC during that time period toy sales across the board were down so a lot of cartoons didn't last long at no fault of their own.

As much as I resent corps (and they are to blame) I'm not gonna pretend the market hadn't spoken long ago regarding 2d hand drawn animation, with each movie bombing at the box office. Meanwhile trash like an ugly, uncanny valley live action lion king movie and prequel make like a billion dollars.

And since no one really complained about how ugly disney's what if.. looks, or how when young justice came back it was basically a slide show from the amount of stills, the billion dollar studios are gonna keep giving us garbage low tier animation. Like I appreciate amazon even making invincible in the first place, but for fuck's sake, this is the studio that threw 100 million dollars at some fanfic lord of the rings show, and also the studio that canceled the tick because they blew their million dollar budget on cgi removing the stitching on the suit.

Kinda funny that we just got Arcane to prove to them that you can actually made good animation. No wonder anime is ruling the animation industry by now.

This is why I think they have disdain over the animation. They don't hold back at spending billions on live action that still looks worse to movies from decades ago but suddenly when it is animation it is "too expensive".

It doesn't help that there is also barely any marketing for their animations. I remember the DC animation of Red Hood looking pretty damn great from voice acting and animation and I would never know its existence if it wasn't from random youtube videos.
