Her business model was basically "hey, you wrote a book? Come to my book club, we'll chat hype about your book on my podcast if you let me turn it into a movie, and then I'll give you royalties for that".

Ended up making her own production company, wildly successful with some great movies, authors became wildly rich from it

Seems pretty neat tbh

This, hell even if tc changed it to millionaire, I'm very confused by this topic. We are talking about the actress from that legally blonde movie right? What's all this about authors and companies?

Oh is that the guy who decided the best way to use his inherited fortune was to spend a ridiculous amount of money and energy on tech that would help him dress up like a cave dweller and deliver destitute low level criminals into paraplegia

You heard me exactly right. Reese Witherspoon is wildly, wildly successful now, far more so than she ever was as an actress. Think of her like Harvey Weinstein but without all of the rape.

NO. THIS TALKING POINT IS BAD AND ALWAYS WILL BE BAD! >:(

Bruce does use his fortune to help people and donates to tons of charities and tries to better Gotham as much as he can despite it being a corrupt shithole.

And he goes after serious criminals, not low level poor people. He's not beating up a single father trying to steal bread to feed his kids.

And don't feel sorry for goons that work for Joker, Two-Face, etc. You gotta be a sadistic mfer to work for them in the first place.

Yeah, the entertainment industry is probably the most likely to create extreme wealth with out requiring terrible things. Though, I'm sure certain aspects are questionable, like merchandise made with child labor.

Ya know, no one ever mentions Rowling in these talks about acquiring wealth through moral means. Obviously what she's doing now that she is wealthy is terrible, but how she got there? Doesn't seem like it. Just had a monumentally popular product.

Also, you have to take into consideration that "getting beat up" in a comic book isn't like real life. If Batman launches a guy into a stack of wooden boxes, yeah, in real life that dude would likely be paralyzed. But that's not the intention in the comic.

  1. I always felt the "bruce does actually donate to charity" is a bit of a retcon to make it all make a bit more sense.
  2. Even if he does donate to charity it always seems like a bit of a sideplot or afterthought, at least as far as his energy goes.
  3. His plan for going after serious criminals is to endlessly lock them up in the world's least reliable prison
  4. Being the smartest man on earth or whatever he has to realise that his plan isn't remotely working, and locking the joker away in arkham asylum is just delaying the next inevitable genocide
  5. It seems like a lot of the goons work for the joker etc because they are legitimately frightened of them
  6. EIther way, he's not above basically breaking a person in half just to get some information on the top guy. I shall never kill, but I don't mind a little bit of full body paralysis

She got there legitimately enough. It's what she's done with it afterwards that is the problem.

In my hometown of edinburgh, she's used her vast wealth and influence to set up the first trans-exclusionary private shelter in scotland.
