The only logical explanation for how some people are acting is that they dont just want not Trump, they specifically want the Democrats in their exact current form.

I think that there is a bit of signalling in favour of Biden's policy on Gaza.

If the voters didn't want what the Democrats are offering, they are sure showing it in a funny way, considering how much the *REALLY* want that "not Trump" Democrat option now that they've voted for Trump.

How do we hold them accountable during the general election?

1. They lose their election
2. We get screwed and they're slightly less comfortable

I'm not really sure where that tracks. The time to punish the democrats are during primaries. During the general election, we need to try to compromise, not punish each other.

Also, no one is saying the democrats don't have blame. They chose a strategy of courting republicans when they're cultists. They were greedy to move away from their base to steal votes. I would love to hold them accountable when I'm not causing world corruption to do so.

IMO that's an illusion -- the Democrats are such a collage of different interest groups that literally nobody on team D wants them in their exact current form. Instead, each of dozens of interest groups wants the party to align more closely with them, which is impossible.

But at general election time vs. the GOP menace, it really is important for everyone on team D to put the infighting on pause and unify to at least make a best effort in the general election (which conspicuously didn't happen in 2024).

It's easy for these demands of unity in general election season to be twisted in bad faith arguments to become "Blue MAGA, the Democrats as they currently stand are the pinnacle of perfection, no need for even the slightest improvement." Of course that's farcical. The real ask was always just "vote blue and at least don't discourage other people from voting blue".

In fact, I would not even say that it is exclusively a Democrat problem because a quick look at some left-wing parties in other countries (just look at Europe right now, or South America) will have some very similar problem. The idea that the party is somehow morally above the voters that they try to bring is what pisses off a lot of swing voters.
