What the FUCK!

I've owned this game since 1995, played through it once a year, and never bothered to wait at The End screen for a minute. I always just pressed A and went back to the title screen.

Imagine my surprise when I went to drain the lizard during the credits and come back to see Cranky talking. All he says is how to access the cheat menu and music menu >_>. But it's still neat to see something brand new (to me).

It's wild to learn something new from an old game you've played a million times. Like last year, I found out in Super Mario RPG, if you leave the 1st screen in Kero Sewers after Mallow jumps in the pipe, he has dialogue about you trying to ditch him. Never tried or knew that obscure dialogue existed until I saw it on youtube.

You got any similar experiences with games you love, CE? >_>

Also, beat DKC2 on hard mode (aka with the no DK Barrels cheat). Doesnt give you extra % points like it does in DKC3, but it was still fun >_>

If you go to the cheat menu and press a button sequence that spells out Barral Ax, you disable DK barrels in levels and make the game harder.

It sorta works like the same cheat in DKC3, where you start a level with both kongs automatically, but that's all you get. Unlike in DKC3, the cheat in DKC2 doesn't give you extra percentage points, and (for some reason) replenishes your kongs if you find a bonus room (DKC3 doesnt do that).

It makes some levels ball busting hard >_> Like Toxic Tower and Animal Antics

I knew about the one that gives you 50 lives in 1, but didn't know that 2 and 3 also had a cheat.

Here's all the cheats for DKC1-3 if you're curious >_> I put them in a notepad file for quick reference when I play the games and fuck around in them

Donkey Kong Country 1 Cheats:

50 Lives:
Select Erase Game and press: B, A, R, R, A, L (Barrel)

Sound Test:
Select Erase Game and press Down, A, R, B, Y, Down, A, Y. Press select to change song (Darby Day)

Allow inactive player to switch in Two Player Team:
Select Erase Game and press B, A, Down, B, Up, Down, Down, Y (Bad Buddy)

Freely play any Animal Bonus Game:
During the intro, press Down, Y, Down, Down, Y
If you Game Over'd and activate this cheat, you can press Start and Select after gaining lives to continue where you left off.

Donkey Kong Country 2 Cheats:

Sound Test:
Select a new file, highlight Two Player Contest, and press Down 5 times

Cheat Mode:
Select a new file, highlight Two Player Contest, and press Down 10 times

50 Lives:
Activate Cheat Mode and press Y, A, Select, A, Down, Left, A, Down (Ya Sad Lad)

Hard Mode (No DK Barrels):
Activate Cheat Mode and press B, A, Right, Right, A, Left, A, X (Barrel Ax)

75 Kremkoins:
Start Pirate Panic, enter K Rool's room and exit, jump over 2 bananas, collect banana bunch, go back to K Rool's room, collect 1up balloon and exit, jump over
2 bananas, collect banana bunch, go back to K Rool's room, collect Kremkoin

Exit any unbeaten level:
Pause the game, hold Right and press Y, hold Left and press A, hold Up and press B, and then hold Down and press X

Fun Horn Sounds:
While driving any of the boats, hold X and press L and R at the same time. Different vehicles give different jingles

Enable Cheat Codes:

When entering a cheat on an existing save file, it's usually temporary until you shut off the game

Automatic saving after every level (gives you Cheatin' Chump rating):

Activate Cheat Mode and enter WATER, then swim to the leftmost waterfall on the world map and complete the banana bird game to receive 85 bonus coins

Less DK Barrels (gives 104% completion):
Activate Cheat Mode and enter HARDER. Only works on new save files

No DK barrels and no Star Barrels (gives 105% completion):
Activate Cheat Mode and enter TUFST on a new save file

No Star Barrels:
Activate Cheat Mode and enter TUFST on an exising save file

It's hard to read but Cranky asks why you're still here, says to go to the menu and press down a bunch of times for a secret (aka the Music Test and Cheat Menu), and then says to turn the cartridge off so he could get some sleep

Well, I sure didn't know about this. It's easy to miss because most people will either jam buttons at the "The End" screen (to see if it really is the end, because many games will return you to the title screen after either a delay or a button input) or just outright turn the game off.
