Not defending any of this, but the tweet does not match what's in the report.

The report says a lawyer from X called and said to spend more.

The tweet says a lawyer form X called and said spend more or we will torpedo your merger. It also says interpublic "interpreted" the call as a threat to the merger. As far as the report shows, no actual comment about the merger from the X lawyer was made, threat or otherwise.

Let's not get carried away.

The whole purpose of the lawyer contacting them in the first place was to remind them to spend more and, you know, they can't refuse, because of the implication.

How do you determine this though? Of course Trump has millions of cult followers who are just regular people, and many more millions of non-cult supporters. But I have never seen a single person in power who truly follows Trump. I accept that Patel might be the first but it seems unlikely.

You also underestimate how good Indians are at western politics. It's a stereotype but it's true.

Turns out as long as Congress doesn't care the President can just usurp their job and powers.

Same with the courts.

The problem with checks and balances is that if the other branches refuse to check and balance then you can basically do whatever.

Just like how the legislative ceded the ability to declare war to the executive decades ago, they're now essentially ceding lots of other powers too.

They're part of the executive branch.

Yes, as established and funded by congress.

If someone builds a restaurant, and provides all the funding needed to operate the restaurant, then puts you in charge... it would be pretty dumb for your Executive Decision as the person in charge to be "tear down the restaurant". Like yes, you are technically in charge, but that's dumb as hell.

This was obviously always going to be the move if we lost. Blame progressives, move to the right. We give an inch, and they take a mile. This is why we needed to show up, but no we needed to teach Kamala a lesson. We needed to teach the DNC a lesson.

For every step we take forward, we take two backward because people refuse to settle for 'not the Nazis'. Kamala Harris will probably never be in a major position of power again (maybe as Governor of California if she decides to run). We needed to show up with bells on. People instead stayed home or voted for Jill Stein. I'm sure Jill Stein is much closer to being President now! I'm sure we'll have a real third party any day now.

Republicans lose, and they say "We didn't go far right enough!"
Democrats lose, and they also say "We didn't go far right enough!"

It's a problem with leadership to be sure, but it's not something we can really fix right now. There has to be an organic movement to replace the feckless leaders of the Democratic Party. Toss aside the old guard, and replace them with people willing to put up a fight. But instead, our closer-to-center friends would rather move to the center even more, because surely next time the centrists will vote for the party that didn't try to overthrow the government, exude incompetence, have only a 'concept of a plan' for healthcare, and maybe this time Lucy will let Charlie Brown kick the football.

The left on pretty much all sides right now appears to be standing down.

There isn't much attempt at a movement. Everyone sucks. We'll see if anyone shows up in the next couple years but everything seems pretty fucked.

We need to reach real people.

If everyone who endlessly relitigates why Kamala lost actually voted for Kamala she would've won every single electoral vote

I mean at least with 2016 there were a lot of intertwining factors and variables. With 2024 it seems very straightforward as to what happened.

there are already citizen organizations growing of people coming together to plan proper protests and resistance to an invasion and how to deal with tariffs etc.

Our Democracy as it was designed is already dead.

A huge mob of people bigger than most protests Ive ever seen was unable to reach any elected officials or do much of anything on Jan 6th. And the cops didnt even shoot at them. I can assure you that they very much would shoot at us.

Probably not unreasonable to assume a good 1/3 or more of the police and army in the US would be on team fascist. Police are probably quite a bit higher than that even

Widespread peaceful protests should achieve the same thing. And it's what we should do. They're not nearly widespread enough yet but they're increasing
