According to data from Circanas Mat Piscatella, sales of the PS5 Pro in the US have fallen behind those of the PS4 Pro, despite Sonys high-end console enjoying a strong start during its launch month in November 2025
Speaking on BlueSky a few months back, Piscatella noted that the PS5 Pro got off to a solid start, with sales in the same ballpark as PS4 Pros launch. However, speaking prior to the weekend, the analyst revealed that PS5 Pro has fallen behind PS4 Pros pace when asked how the console was performing compared to PS4 Pro three months into its lifecycle.

The PS5 Pro retailer for $699.99/799.99, significantly more than the PS4 Pro, which arrived in November 2016 priced at $399.99. Back in December, journalist Christopher Dring revealed that the PS5 Pro accounted for 26% of all PS5s that were sold during in the UK during its launch month.

Sonys mid-cycle refresh offers greater horsepower than the standard version of the console, including providing higher frame rates, enhanced resolution, and increased performance stability. One of the biggest advantages is the use of Sonys AI-powered upscaling tech, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which forms part the PS5 Pro Enhanced label.

Good. Charging $1000 is one thing, but not even having a disc drive? f*** off with that nonsense.

I wanted to buy a ps5 as I'm running out of ps4 games to play, but I won't stand for being ripped off

Would weird-ass alt accounts/weird accounts in general that I have never personally interacted with stop being weird, abusing the mention system and bringing me into topics like this one? (Even if you edited the post a few seconds after you posted your message the mention notification was still on my gamefaqs account).

If this is about me owning a PS5 pro then I am sure there is other CEmen that also own one.....bother them. I am playing monster hunter wilds now so go away, lol.

It's almost like people don't want to spend $700 on a console with no exclusive games and no way to play physical media without spending another $100+

Kind of like they were able to identify a shitty purchase on sight and avoided it

They very recently stopped with the cross gen stuff to make owning a regular ps5 necessary for console gamers to keep playing their favorite series. The pro is a much more niche market than it's predecessor. It's actually more noticeable of a difference in performance than between the base ps4 and the pro, but fewer people care this gen. Then there's the price point too. If you have extra money, its cool though.

Well when you consider that

Console: $700
Disc Drive $80
Stand: $30
Year sub to PSN: $80

You're spending almost $900 before taxes. A gaming PC that can basically achieve parity is within that

I will actually defend the PS5 Pro price, aside from the disc drive. It comes with a 2 TB NVMe. If you buy a regular PS5 and a 2 TB NVMe youre looking at $600+ bare minimum, and $650+ if you get a decent NVMe, so I think the extra money to get to $700 is fair for the hardware upgrade. I would say its $80 too expensive because it doesnt come with a disc drive, but its not hundreds too expensive the way people act like it is.

There's a topic about this on NGG.

From what I understand; yes, it's behind. But it's by an extremely small margin.

Sorta similar to the base PS4 and PS5 when launch aligned.

I think the take away is that the market isn't growing, but it is sustaining. And that is, I guess, bad news? Another case of Line must always Go Up? I didn't read too much into the topic. I figure this is all by design and isn't a bad thing. This product wasn't made to sell like hot cakes. It's a premium product for enthusiasts who have the money to spend.

One of those things is utterly unnecessary (stand), one more is also fairly unnecessary these days (disc drive), and a third isnt necessary for everyone (PSN). Only the PS5 itself (and at least one game, but thats true for PC too) is essential.

Not to mention, are you including an at least decent keyboard and mouse in that estimate? (I think not including the monitor is fair, as the TV isnt included for the PS5 either, and even if you wanna argue a monitor isnt the same in terms of most people already have one, a TV can be used as a monitor.)

I'm team PC myself these days but that comparison is kinda loaded.

So some of this is anecdotal but a big proponent of console is the physical media crowd, and about half of PS5 owners actually need the stand so I dunno where you'd split the difference there. I'd sooner take the psn sub and allocate that towards a gamepad in this scenario too.

Like if you're big on physical and need the stand, and you want to play online you really are spending nearly $900 USD for that. This isn't the case for all but it would be for many. This might be a point where one decides to just go all digital if you're reading the writing on the wall. I'd be surprised if the ps6 or new XB offers physical media support.

You never need the stand. Its purely a cosmetic accessory. The console can stand up without it.

Likewise, you never need a disc drive, outside of nowdays rare unusual circumstances with 90s-quality internet connections. You might prefer one, but you dont need it; Id put it in the same category, at best, as getting a game pad for a PC.

PSN is the only extra on your list that would sometimes be necessary in order to fully enjoy ones games, for the sake of multiplayer.

I dunno my PS5 (base model with the drive) is horizontal but it does use that stand disc which as far as I'm aware is necessary to keep it upright and stable. I believe if you have it vertically you don't need the stand but my setup wouldn't support that.

I know you don't need the disc drive, but if you already have a sizable collection going back to the ps4 well, you kinda do unless you're going to repurchase your physical collection digitally.

Or you could just play them on your PS4, which you presumably have if youre thinking about buying a PS5 (so dont yet have one) and have a lot of PS4 physical games.

Ideal? Maybe not. But its an option that involves less new spending. And also, getting rid of the PS4 wouldnt be an option with the PC route unless youre happy to either give up those games or keep the PS4, meaning you cant factor in sell the PS4 to make some of the cost back with that route.

I mean you're ignoring the people who already have a base PS5 with physical games for both and are interested in the pro

Generally speaking, that's true. However, it should be kind of obvious that the context here is "necessary to play PS5 games / to play PS4 games on a PS5", not "necessary for life in general". I'm sure you can find some kind of remedial literacy class that can help educate you on picking up implications such as this, if it's something you find yourself regularly struggling with.

still rings true considering Pc has good library of PS games and mod-able if thats your thing

so once again you dont need a ps5 to play a good amount of PS games

PC is definitely the better option overall, Im not remotely disputing that. Im just disputing the notion that a disc drive or a goddamn stand are an essential item that needs to be factored into the cost of getting a PS5.

PC is more expensive upfront unless you buy a borderline piece of crap. Thats just a fact. Its worth it, though.
