I saw that post on FB just a few minutes ago. I bet half of the comments are full of PEDs, HGH, or steroid allegations.

As someone who knows nothing about basketball stats, did he become more of a team player? No idea if 7.4 assists is good, but I see it increased for a slight dip in his points.

He can do this for a few more years and I wouldn't be surprised. How old will he be when his body finally starts breaking I wonder.

He's always been a team player. He's 4th all time in assists.

Not only that, he's the ONLY player in NBA history to be both top 10 in points AND assists. He's also number 1 in points.

Nobody In history has aged better than LeBron James. I still believe that Jordan's peak was higher, but LeBron being an utterly elite player for two decades now is absolutely insane and makes the GOAT argument a convincing 1A vs 1B situation.

He has always been a team player who defers often to try to involve teammates and chooses specific impactful moments to take over.

The .7 increase isnt really a big difference to really differentiate a difference in playing styles. Basically he has always tried to make the correct basketball play. If taking over the game and being a scorer going to the basket is needed that is what he will do but if he draws a double or triple team and the right play is to pass to the open guy even if that guy is a bench player who isnt a great scorer he will do it because its the right play rather than forcing the shot because hes the star.

I say this objectively. Im not an ultra LeBron super fan. Im an older guy who thinks Jordan is the greatest but I still know how great LeBron is. His longevity and level of play at this age is amazing. But we are seeing that in football, tennis, hockey, everywhere. Its just different now. Athletes take care of their bodies so much better and the sports science knowledge, injury recovery, everything is way better.

Part of it is the quicker pace of the game. Miami had 94.0 possessions per game in 2012-13. The Lakers have 101.2 possessions per game in 2024-25. More possessions lead to inflated stats - more opportunities for scoring, rebounding, assists, etc.

With that said, LeBron is amazing. There is a reason that he is in that upper upper upper echelon of all time greats - basically just him, Jordan and Kareem. And hes arguably the greatest athlete in human history.

He's human he just puts a lot of work into his body and if you watch him play now compared to how he played back then it's VERY different.

Now he's plays slower, he's more conservative with his energy and just knows how to optimize how to handle his strengthes and weaknesses. He's clearly not as explosive and as fast as he use to be in his 20s.

^ That. Most of the greats of previous eras of any given sports absolutely wrecked their body and didn't give a crap. Nowadays you couldn't break bones and be let back onto the field/court while that was very much a thing back then.
