I never tried ff5. I was like this with FF7 but I kept getting screwed instead of dropping the game.

Screwed how?

It honestly is a bit of a slog, I did enjoy most of it though and I think it has one of the best end-game areas in the franchise.

Mem card wiped, mem card stolen, PC drive IO errors, botched mod install, and like two or three other events. I never got off disc one lol

Story is nothing special, but it has the best job system in the series.

That's really unfortunate, it's a real landmark of good RPGs. Totally get not wanting to get jinxed again though

As for FF5, the class system is amazing, and the final area is too, but it's all over the place in terms of engagement I feel. I've beaten it a bunch of times but it's kind of a crapshoot as to whether or not I finish any given playthrough of it.

I liked FF5 more than I thought I would.

After playing some more somber and darker FFs, a more lighthearted one was a nice change of pace. And I thought the main cast was really fun as well. It's my second favorite of the pixel games after 6.

The job system was pretty good as well, but that was just the icing on the cake for me.

Im this way with FF6. I've played it three times and every time I dropped it at the start of the world of ruin.

FF5 is great

Fair. Its my favorite of the 2D games, but still vastly prefer the 3D games.

FF4 is the one I get stuck on part way through.

This is FF12 for me. Every time I play I get far enough to give everyone their second jobs then get bored.

This has happened to me with FF6. I've tried multiple times and each time I drop the game 5-10 hours in.

It ranks lower on my all time FF list, which isnt to say that it is bad - it is just up against stiff competition. But I like to get invested in the plot of FF games, and that is FF5s biggest weakness.

Now for people who dont care about the story as much and like the range of options in gameplay, then FF5 has a ton to offer.

that's the only one of the retro ones i've never played. also the one you hear the least about so never been in a rush to try it but do plan to eventually just because. i've beaten most of the games except 2, 5 and 8. never bothered with 13 or newer.

I want final fantasy 5 to get the FF7 remake+rebirth treatment just so I can see all the cool job costumes in high definition. High def. dancers buttz, reina, galuf and faris moonwalking their way to victory.

Man, I feel like I ran into some kindred spirits lately with my great dislike of Amano art for some final fantasy game's characters, lol.

Friggin hate his take on the FF5 and FF6 cast. Pink hair reina, purple hair faris and brown hair Shonen guy buttz please.

FF5 had great design but it felt... slow. The battles, character growth rates, the story, pretty much everything felt kinda slow and boring.

i've tried it twice, and the farthest i got was the dungeon that is two identical towers, except the boss of one is only vulnerable to physical attacks and the boss of the other is only vulnerable to magical attacks, and the way i was playing it (rather stupidly in retrospect) was that i was planning on having all the characters learn all the jobs, and i was gonna start with the physical jobs and then move on to the magical jobs after that. and you guessed it, i had not started in on the magical jobs AT ALL at that point. so i just kinda said fuck it and dropped the playthrough.

i did try to start another one up a couple years later, but it was a half-hearted attempt and it didn't last very long.

I just beat it for the first time myself recently and really liked it. Of the classic FFs, maybe my favorite gameplay, but I was surprised by the story too (6 has my favorite story). It's definitely more on the grindy side because of the job system, though thankfully the Pixel Remaster improvements remedy that making the experience much smoother.
