i would think a few years of self reflection on this issue would have made you realize how foolish it was to keep subsidizing musk. after crusading about and creating actual purity tests about people buying the harry potter game you still dont seem to have the same energy about someone 1000x worse who actually owns the product in question and financially benefits from every interaction.

You keep saying this, but using Twitter is not really subsidizing anybody. In fact, twitter is costing Elon money. If anything, it's collapse would save Elon money in the long run.

If you want to go the "hurt his wallet" route, you'd have a much better argument telling people to stop using starlink or to not buy Tesla's or to protest the billions of dollars worth of government contracts and subsidies he recieves everytime we pay our taxes.

Simply put, he doesn't care about the handful of pennies you think you're costing him by not looking at a tweet.

he monetizes data from each user and any engagements ultimately makes him money. twitter collapsing would happen much sooner if people put aside their social media addictions and quit using the site en masse.

Right, but the point is he's monetizing those things at a loss. Those are merely things they do to minimize total losses.

It's not actually making him money. Twitter costs more money to operate then it generates in revenue. It collapsing would save him money.

Except it's objectively not making him money. I don't think twitter has ever once made a profit throughout it's entire existence, and the current financial state is that it's at one of its lowest points in terms of revenue generation.

The last data point we had on Twitter was that it costs about 200+ million over revenue earned year after year. If that holds true to today, then Elon has lost close to a billion dollars since acquiring it.

Just keep that in mind. He's already willing to lose a quarter of a billion dollars a year just to keep it afloat. Denying him a handful of pennies by not looking at some ad at the bottom of a tweet is so miniscule, it doesn't even qualify as "drops" in the bucket. It's more like a light residue of something maybe approaching a drop.

Or in other words, boycotting twitter to stop "subsidizing Musk" is essentially meaningless.

While I think the TC has some kind of...valid point somewhere in that personal attack on CyricZ (meaning everyone should drop Twitter), they have gone about it in the stupidest and most antagonizing way possible.

I only use Twitter when I see links posted and only have an account to read the replies.

I only browse it with an ad/tracker blocker on so my presence is costing them any potential money. I don't like, re-tweet, or in any other way engage with the platform.

If Twitter stops becoming a platform of immediate news or the equivalent accounts on bluesky are updated as immediately, I'll stop posting Twitter links.

Personally, I'm in much deeper shit with people who virtue signal/bitch about not using Twitter to begin with. Why? Because I'm sworn to the US (government). I support, defend and represent something these people find intolerable.
