Monster Hunter has never been serious though. It has always been weird and goofy and characters are always dumb caveman types. The cats. The monsters who fart on you. Flexing used to be a thing

Monster Hunter is always a funny but goofy game. Talking cats, farting monkeys, soap monsters, a cute chameleon elder dragon who walks like a dog when excited and ready to attack!

It's less that Monster Hunter is serious and more that it plays everything with the ultimate straight-face seriousness.

regional apocalyptic threat? Yeah ok go sort that out, that's a problem. But before you go hit the giant cheese fondue fountain staffed by cats

The local nobles were bored so they requested an exotic pet. Take your rarity 8 Large Frozen Tuna and beat a rathalos into submission (the rathalos is rabid or something so it has higher stats than god don't worry about that though). There's good money in it for you.

Oops a local wack-ass mantis keeps stealing our airships. Fight it's mechazord in the desert so it stops doing that

I think TC meant to say one word cutscene, and not that the scene was cut lol.

That scene is in game.

There's that goofy cat stuff. Then there's the aspect of your hunter constantly waiting to be let off his leash to satiate his bloodlust while also being a Planeteer that respects the earth.

My utter disappointment when there are no palico / felyne cooking scenes in this game...

That was one of the most "I have no idea wtf is going on and please no one explain it to me because it'll be way less fun" clips I've seen in awhile.

Even those of us who saw that in game didnt really know what was going on aside from the broad these cats have pulled off a meat heist and this giant chicken is trying to poach their haul thing.

I just realized that MH cooking scenes activate the same part of my brain that Mortal Kombat fatalities do, except they're in the totally opposite place on the content scale. But you watch them with glee, eager to see just how wild the designers got with them, always hoping they one-upped themselves from last game.

God the nostalgia for that older MH. The music and menus brought me immediately back. Wilds is absolutely missing any of that kind of style, it feels too serious and bombastic. Plus that's how I would expect a hunter would have to eat food, a massive portion. Not the tiny shit they do in Wilds!

April seems to be when they will add a hub for players that beat the game. Hopefully it brings it back in that way.
