I'm sure most people have those little things that make us quietly go, 'Really?' when we see someone do them. Could be something small, like people who dont return their shopping trolleys, or something bigger, like blasting music on public transport.

For example, at work I once saw someone drink from a glass and put it back without washing it first (pre-covid era, but still, eww). Like wtf are you doing.

Whats something you secretly (or not-so-secretly) judge people for?

People who don't follow the fucking rules of flying

-You get one carry-on item (for overhead) and one personal item for the seat in front of you. There are far too many assholes who don't care and just bring everything, and they know the gate agents don't enforce the bag limits because they have on-time metrics to meet. Fuck the people who bring too many bags forcing others to gate check, and fuck the system for not giving the gate agents authority to tell them to fuck off.

-Aisle gets the extra legroom. Middle gets both armrests. Window gets the window. Why are these fucking morons in the aisle/window using the middle's armrests?

-The seat on your ticket is where you're supposed to sit. Don't get there early, steal a better seat, quickly get set up, and put up a huge stinky fit when the rightful seatholder arrives. There are so many people out there who deliberately do shit like this and bank on others being too spineless to speak up for themselves.

by the time kids get a job interview they have little to no idea how to address them. the way they talk is no different from talking to friends. but you could also argue that managers in the future probably wouldn't be so formal anymore either. maybe in the far far future there will be no difference in how people talk to each other in funerals, work, and with friends. Not swearing every other sentence shows a person has the restraint to filter their thoughts before speaking. You may see it as cowardice and think your life is way more deserving than others because you're not afraid to use the F word regardless of where you are in the world and regardless of what situation you are in, but in a place of work simply talking with some restraint can show others that

The acceptability of any given no-no word varies over time and always will, but what's constant is the need to be aware of your setting and your audience in choosing how to speak. There are always going to be things you should avoid saying around strangers until you know that it won't make them uncomfortable, and the interpersonal intelligence needed to recognize what is and is not appropriate is a skill that must be developed.

When you (properly) teach kids not to swear in public, that's not just a matter of "don't say that word." It's a matter of "some people here might not be comfortable with you saying that word, and you should respect that until you're more familiar with them and learn that it's okay." It's part of teaching them to read the room, which in turn is a critical part of teaching them to be a respectful person.

Quite simply, there's a time and a place for swearing. Kids aren't going to learn that effectively if no restrictions are placed on them, even if those restrictions seem silly to adults that have learned that time and place and don't see an issue with the particular setting in question.

Often, writing something like that is as much about crystallizing my own rationale as it is trying to convince other people. Whatever it does to change anyone's mind (and it probably won't do much, given who we're dealing with), I better understand and feel more confident in my position for having taken the time to compose and write that, and I do see some value in that.

That's strong confidence. Others will belittle you for needing to work out your position as you deliver it. It's weak to give an opinion without immediately being able to articulate every reason why, soundly, assuredly, and without stuttering . But I agree, clarifying it into words often helps strengthen confidence yourself. In that way I agree definitely.

It's a phobia. It's going to happen whether you "support" it or not, and a blanket dismissal as "detachment from reality" isn't going to do anything to help or correct it.
