The story is that this is an Arkansas bill that would make it illegal to contribute in any way to the social transition of a minor, which includes (but is not limited to) affirming things like names, hairstyles, clothing, and pronouns. It's also a blanket ban on gender-affirming care for minors.

FURTHERMORE, this bill would allow extraterritorial jurisdiction, meaning anyone outside Arkansas who contributes is also potentially liable.

The bill's co-sponsors are no strangers to Christian right-wing ideological legislating, and assure us that none of this violates the First Amendment.

Trans boys under 18 are still boys.

Arkansas is bottom ten in virtually ever metric for quality of life (life expectancy, teenage birthrate, poverty rate, education attainment, incarceration rate, etc), yet this is the problem they're choosing to "fix".

All these laws are lawsuit bait to get people to challenge them on the grounds of constitutionality so they can go all the way to the Supreme Court and the SCOTUS just rule in some draconian and specific way that just shits on the 1st amendment.

The only speech any government should have interest in policing is speech that would incite immediate panic, ie yelling fire in a crowded theater and causing a crowd rush.

Any other level of speech censorship should not be the purview of the government.

Though they'll probably argue that the bill is only for parents to sue others (though we know how this is going to be used) who 'supported' their child's transition.

This is solely so draconian troglodytes who have children that despise them can sue others for being better human beings to their children than they are.

I'll admit I kind of misunderstood the intent of the bill at first, thinking that anybody could sue anyone but it actually is only making 'supporters' liable to the parents.

There is a First Amendment in this country. That means, I am going to support and affirm whoever I feel like. That means I will continue to support whatever names, pronouns, hairstyles etc. that those around me choose for themselves. My wife and I will continue to fly our pride flags in support, and to support trans gender people, gay people, people of color, people with disabilities, and whatever other groups we see fit. Fuck any part of this attempted tin pot dictatorship that tries to tell me otherwise.

I am an American. I say what I want. And one thing I am going to say, loudly and repeatedly, is that I will not be complicit in bigotry and hate.

I wonder if someone could get around this law by socially transitioning but simply claiming not to be trans. Saying theyre a boy who happens to like girls clothing. If the law only applies to trans people this could work

Nah, this law is for conservative parents who hate that their kid is 'rebelling' against the 'natural order' and want to sue anyone else who supports said 'rebellion'.

Hell, I fully expect at least a handful of parents to specifically groom their kids to go around telling people they're transitioning or questioning or something just so the parents can sue unsuspecting people.

Nope.

New Mexico has it as state law that we will not cooperate with out-of-state subpoenas or investigations regarding gender-affirming or abortion care received in our state.

We've also had gay marriage enshrined in our legislature since before the country itself had it, and we have it set that they cannot be rescinded it unrecognized.
