What do you consider the best video game trailer. I'm not sure for myself, but the one for BotW blew me away. And I watched it for the first time last week after spending hundreds of hours in the actual game! If I would have been following it at the time I would have shit myself.

Even having played through the game twice and rewatched the cutscenes enough to add up to another playthrough or two, I still come back to the final pre-release trailer for Xenoblade 3 periodically.

I kind of kept Xenoblade 3 at arm's length leading up to its release, after both X and 2 fell a little flat compared to how much I hyped them up. Both are excellent games, but I set the bar pretty high because 1 is one of my favourite games ever and they just didn't quite measure up, so I figured for 3 I'd try to go in with minimal expectations like I did with 1. I ended up ignoring that trailer until like a week or two before the game released, at which point the hype train promptly left the station and that plan went out the window. Fortunately, the game did not disappoint, and it took its place right up there with 1.

I hate to put this here because I don't particularly care for the game itself but there is seriously no trailer in existence that I can think of that had a bigger splash than the Skyrim reveal trailer.

Granted that was like a decade before final release and at least captured the tone of the actual game. Is that Jack Black and Aaron Paul at the end?

This topic made me realize that I hardly ever watch trailers, and even when I do I don't remember them afterwards.

Honestly all of MGSVs trailers were amazing, every one of them was hype and was supposedly leading to a hell of a game. Too bad the trailers contained almost all of the story within the actual game and the game itself was held back extremely hard because Kojima blew the budget on an actor that costs fuckloads of money. i can't really remember nay other trailer that got me really hyped or I though was well done.

Probably the "Meet the..." series from Team Fortress 2

There are two that come to mind.

In my opinion the best is for Assassins Creed IV. The one that introduces all the pirates of history. I still sometimes go back to it just to watch it even though the game is 10+ years old now.

Those really highlight what Concord was lacking: A character-based game relies on having strong characters with clear unique identities. TF2 established its characters well before the game even came out, and continued to develop their identities for years afterwards, and the result is that nearly 20 years later "it costs $400,000 to fire this weapon for twelve seconds" is still a meme. Meanwhile, Concord's entire cast stood out about as well as a barber shop in a Where's Waldo book.

Overwatch did the same as well, huh? Probably why it beat out Paladins? I have a friend who was very into the Overwatch characters and lore despite never playing the game.

It is like the fundamentally missed the basic premise of the hero shooter genre.

If you count CGI that in no way resembles the actual game, WoW had some pretty phenomenal trailers too. They ranged from funny to extremely badass and often weren't in the game at all. It's a pretty liberal interpretation of trailer given it's mostly in-between-events cinematics though
