...When you have 7+ party members in all. The standard should be 4

Unless there's a character switch option in combat

Goddamn I cannot wait for mid combat character swaps in FF7 Part 3

Character switching like golden sun should be the standard.

I say let the entire full party participate in combat. If a game has 6 playable characters, why should I be limited to only having 4

Make it like "World of Final Fantasy"and have them stacked on top of each other.

I always liked FF 4 having a whopping 5 party members. I heard Suikoden also does 5 but I'm just not interested in collecting party members, pokemon kinda ruined it for me for all games.

Chrono cross is so much worse though, it's the lame 3 party member thing while having something like 40 stupid characters for you to choose from. Utter trash move by the developers.

I've never heard of this game so if you're serious that is freaking awesome. Would definitely want this in rpgs.

You'd think modern technology, you can have ALL 8 party members with you in a battle, rather than just forcing you to choose 3 or 4. I feel like I saw a modern jrpg where all the party members were on screen taking down a monster. I think it was an action rpg or semi-action rpg, it definitely didn't look turn based like ff 10

It's FF's version of Pokemon. Better than I thought it would be.

Xenoblade 3 did this with its main cast, and you can switch control between them during battle if you wanted. It also had a 7th slot filled by one of the non-playable characters.

Follow up post when whole party is available at once:

Why do random battles take so long?

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.

Play it. It's a legit great love letter to the series, is super fun and has a lot of fun mechanics. Is one of my favorite FF games, and I have played them all.

I like in three houses, each of your units is a leader of a squadron and when it zooms in on the battles they are leading dozens of soldiers

Even worse is when you're forced to use the MC so you effectively only ever get to pick two party members.

I love that The Last Story always has every party member in combat, no matter how many you have.

I'm starting to lean towards games with squads (Fire Emblem, Last Remnant, Soul Nomad, Unicorn Overlord, Wargroove, etc).

The most irritating team number restriction I've ever seen is in Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer.

You can have up to three people on your team.

On any given playthrough, you will have no more than four potential companions.

So you always have to ditch one person unless you mod the party limit.

It's fucking ridiculous, especially considering how massively character-driven the story actually is.

Other than Suikoden IV? Suikoden does 6 character parties.

Same thing with star ocean 5. All 7 people that travel with you throwing out their moves and magics is awesome.

I thought I had a old gameplay clip with the full party, but I do got this story segment with 6 of the party members there and all the npcs that is around fighting also.

*Thumbnail warning. I seriously forgot about it, =/*

Up to 7, but more typically 4. Your party size depends on the scenario in the story.
