No they have both the key and the regular one.

The DK box directly contradicts that this will be all switch games.

Seems to be different from actual game cards. But what is the point of this then?

Wouldn't people just buy the actual game cards? If they wanted digital just buy the digital codes?

I think it's probably going to be more like a cheaper way for digital exclusive games to have a physical thing you can buy as a gift without having a dedicated pressing run for one game.

From my point of view, it's trying to find a balance for both physical and digital buyers by offering a way for those who buy digital to trade the game on a physical format with a Switch 2 that is able to connect with Nintendo's servers or something like that.

Honestly, probably. The writing was on the wall that the industry was heading in that direction. Digital as a cheaper mainstream option and physical being a more expensive enthusiast option makes the most sense given the current market.

There is a middleground of people who only want physical for the ease of gifting and transference of ownership, but do not care about the preservationist side of the argument.

I'm not one of these people. But they do exist, a lot of them being parents who want gifts under the tree.

almost every single physical switch "game" I've ever held in my hands has had text on the back saying mandatory download required, so it's literally a digital game with a digital key on cartridge, it's waste of physical material for no good reason

Man what? Pretty sure the only game that this is mandatory for is Xenoblade

There's a couple. Particularly some combo packs only have some of the games on the cartridge. FFX/X-2 requires downloading X-2.
