My car is 20 years old and I'm not sure if it will be able last the next few years without it rusting away or a major repair issue cropping up (such as the transmission dying). I've been researching and planning on getting a new car for a while. I can afford a new car easily but I'm not sure if that is the right move. If Trump is actually serious about tariffs this time and doesn't repeal them in a few days I will probably seriously consider getting a new car soon since the prices will skyrocket. Then again, these tariffs are so crazy that it may actually crash the economy and cause deflation (There was deflation in the Great Depression despite tariffs, and there was deflation followed by very minimal inflation post 2008 despite near zero percent interest rates). I'm also worried some of the cars I'm interested in may dissapear from the US market since they are built in Japan and they are niche low volume cars imported to America. They likely would be among the first on the chopping block for retirement from the American market. I also don't want to be caught in the next few months or years with a dead car and then essentially have to be forced to pay inflated costs for a major repair on an old ass car or inflated costs on a new car. --- We all live in a Yellow SUV! a Yellow SUV! ... you pretty much did pick a bad time to buy a new car op, lots of people who were on the same boat as you decided to buy cars from various manufacturers similarly to the way people were panic buying during Covid, you might not find the car you want in your area because of that --- HERRO EvryBody. Was looking at local inventory online for new cars and it seems fairly normal around me. Kind of goes against the anecdotal evidence of last week all dealerships sold a crazy amount of cars. JohnEtrav posted... Buy a used Tesla. Youll get a hell of a deal on a slightly used one right now and that wouldnt be fully supporting Elons crazy ass by buying new. If a Tesla was car I'd actually want to buy I'd totally get a cheap used one and debadge it. Its crazy how fast prices on them have fallen. --- We all live in a Yellow SUV! a Yellow SUV! ...
