Anti-ace sentiment is not only cruelty and bigotry, it makes no goddamn sense.

What fucking harm does an ace (or aro) person commit by being ace or aro?

I am good with the sentiment, but sometimes the terminology itself is odd. Still, freedom of speech does mean that they SHOULD be allowed to say what they want and call themselves what they want, even if talking about "aces" makes me think of card games personally.

Because it's far from a hard requirement to use it.

A lot of the terminology is based on the "if 51 people prefer it and 49 do not the 51 win" sort of standard, but there's nothing forcing you to use that terminology.

People in the population are free to call themselves ace, asexual, queer, "don't give a fuck," whatever else they would like with equal validity.

I've misread the topic like 3 times today as "sexual assault day" (which makes no sense obviously) and I keep thinking "what's wrong with you" before reading it correctly. I'm mostly posting this in hopes that I stop misreading it.

I'm still very tentative with sex with other people(but have consumed way too much porn at this point to claim I'm asexual) but I definitely, definitely get it. Can't imagine what JK Rowlings logic even is for badmouthing them

You can absolutely identify as asexual.

It's as much a spectrum as any other orientation. It can run anywhere from sex-ambivalent (no particular drive or interest in sex but will have sex with partners that aren't ace) up to sex-repulsed, anywhere in between.

Plenty of ace people still masturbate and whatnot. It's as much about physical intimacy as it is sexuality. A lot of ace people don't feel that drive to express feelings with physical intimacy, which is just as valid a definition of asexuality as people who just flat-out don't feel sexual urges or attraction.

In essence, an ace person by definition feels less/puts less importance on physical intimacy (which runs the gamut from handholding to intercourse) while aromantic (aro) people feels less/puts less importance on emotional intimacy (the closeness and emotional connection of a partner). Some people experience neither.

But at the end of the day we have as many definitions of asexuality as we do asexual people.

Okay, yeah, that second last paragraph hits home for me. I'm super wary about touching other people, and physical intimacy doesn't come natural to me, its all made dating really difficult coz I'm definitely not aromantic.

That's not at all uncommon for ace people, unfortunately.

It's one reason I push for ace/around inclusion in queer events, both for visibility and for giving members of the population a safe and affirming place to meet similar people.

If I wrote a super successful book series for kids and made boatloads of money from it, I'd like to think that I'd be happy with my life. I'd be proud of what I accomplished. Maybe I'd keep writing simply because I enjoy writing.

At the very least, I can promise that I wouldn't spend my days finding people to be bitter at on Twitter & trying to figure out if the mold on my walls was really talking to me or not.
