It's just a combination of scarcity + demand.

Graded comics are dumb too. But even those make slightly more sense since the grading process at least involves inspecting the actual product and not just its container.

Something about this doesn't pass the sniff test for me.

Sealed product gets shipped all the time without issue. Why did customs take issue with this one? More to the point, why would they cut the box instead of, y'know, just opening it?

Makes me think that this is either rage-bait or some sort of fraud on behalf of one party or another.

There is also speculation that the market was massively inflated and hyped up early on, like I said if you bought a graded game in the first 3 months they started doing it you would be lucky to get 50% of what you paid right now.

Iwata the company that was grading these has been targeted with many Youtube videos calling them dishonest and intentionally propping the prices up in how they did this stuff early. Youtube has some great videos on how much of a scam this shit was, as people were paying massive sums for some of these games.
