'07 Cobalt. One of the crappiest vehicles ever made. I didn't mind the windows but the damn thing couldn't go half a mile without breaking down.

Yeah, multiple.

My second car's driver side handle broke off and I had to roll my window down to open the car door by the outside handle.

Of course. But Im 49 years old. It was common in my generation when we all started driving in the early 90s. Sure power windows existed but it wasnt a widespread thing on the cheap cars we were getting that were usually from the 70s or 80s.

Even when I came home from the military in 1999 and bought a slightly used truck it had roll down windows. I didnt get power windows until 2005 when I bought a nicer new truck after buying my house in 2004 and needing a nice 4 wheel drive truck for winter driving.

My car I drove in high school was roll down window and cassette tape player. Hell I was just happy it had power steering. It didnt even have cruise control. And when I drove a family truck it was three on the tree column shifter transmission.

Nope. I got my first car in 2022, and it's a 2012 model.

I have ridden in cars with those, though, back in the 90's.

That's a classic tbh. I dunno what it is with those interior handles, but I've known several cars--including one I've owned myself--that had this issue.

Another good one is when the window won't roll down. I got pulled over in a car with that problem once. I was kind of afraid to open the door but it was my only option.

I seriously wish new trucks/cars came with a manual window option though.I prefer them because they last.

If you are including ones behind the driver, I had a 1995 GMC Jimmy (2dr) with them. I loved them, because you could keep them open in all but the heaviest rain (and snow).

I got it for $1 to get it out of my neighbor's driveway.

It's a total nothingburger of a feature. I'd go hand crank again if it would save me $50.

I never had a car that you had to use your foot to turn on your high beams though. I remember seeing my dad do that with a van we had as a kid.

Yes, a 1990 Honda Accord. It also had those awkward automatic seat belts that moved into place since that year didn't have airbags.

It was ancient by the time I got it, but it was an alright first car. My dad got it for $500.

Edit: Actually I might be thinking of the '88 Honda Accord my mom had for a while. I think my '90 actually had power windows. I guess I never have owned a car with manual crank windows.

My 1977 Trans Am had that floor button. I think it also may have had that tiny left pedal for setting the e-brake, but I might be thinking of a different car.

As for hand-cranks, I would prefer that for sunroofs, since both cars I've had with electric sunroofs have suffered failures there, and it's very expensive to fix.

I remember one time when I was like 17 working with my dad, he told me to put the parking brake on in his F-150. I only had any experience driving a '95 Beretta, so I couldn't find it. It's been a few nights, so I don't remember where it actually was on that truck, but in any case, it wasn't between the seats like I was used to. So I told him it doesn't have one.

Now, granted, that was a kinda dumb conclusion to draw, but still. I was 17 and never had any interest in the damn machines except for getting from place to place.

He yelled and came and did it himself and gave me hell about how it's in the same place on 99% of vehicles and blah blah.

Later that day, he told his older friend (prob 55-60 or so at the time) that he had recently hired the same thing, and this older friend couldn't find the parking brake either. My dad at that point was pretty much just like >:(

Man, every now and then one of these memories comes back up and I'm like, my dad was one hell of an asshole, huh.
