Was expecting some level of edge.

With a cover like this, you would expect that. While I did get some level of edge that I was expecting with some of the violence presented, I also got a certain level of cheese to go along with the edge.We got a guy named Cid so obsessed with power that he trained nonstop and thought out any source of magic in our world, before getting a meeting with Truck-kun and gets a chance at that POWER in another world. He intentionally trying to live a double life of being a shadow master at night while being the most NPC of all NPCs by daylight by going as far as picking intentionally pretending that he isn't as good with the sword, picking the generic pervy "best friends" with caricature names, and attempting the getting shot down by the popular girl at school. This adds with the intentional larping that he's doing thinking that a cult he made up doesn't exist but actually do and he and his army of girls do end up fighting.

I expecting edge and I got self aware levels of writing to balance that edge. It's not parody level like Konosuba, but it doesn't take itself seriously at points.

Is it actually good? I heard its basically about some guy who LARPs around his isekai world, but rolls nat20s on deception and everything he LARPs about is actually true, but he thinks hes just LARPing

I thought it was meh. I watched about half of it before giving up. Started it because I heard people comparing it to solo leveling, but it's really not like solo leveling.

Solo Leveling is straight power fantasy junk food.
Eminence in Shadow is a comedic satire of isekai edginess. I know several people who aren't into isekai slop who loved it. If you're into ironic humor, you might like it.
