It was sadly her and Edgar both trying to cling to ECC at the end there, and I had to make a Sophie's Choice.

Regardless of your reasons for choosing her, I too am grateful that you picked Rikku there because it keeps the dream alive of the entire X playable cast plus primary and secondary antagonist making it into CXXVIII

-Jill's got a pretty high hurdle to cross to surpass last year's FF16 trio but at least she outlasted Joshua
-Can Leon follow through on his Quistis run? can she top Seifer's PB?

Well, between me and ecks, we should be able to manage a top half finish for Quistis, at least

Maybe she can pick up some more support along the way

Also it's kind of wild that FFXII hasn't had a top ten finish the entire NewSTATS era

And that FFIX fans just didn't bother bringing Beatrix back this year, how the mighty have fallen

Strago really needs another try to get a better placement. Maybe one of these days I'll remember that during nomination period.

I was very surprised at how well he did in the first 10 rounds, but he has been left pretty late on the board in FoG so another softboot isn't unlikely >_>

unless there's some big twist upcoming I'm not aware of I don't think ff16's boss could be considered a spoiler

but I haven't actually beaten it yet so what do I know

oh just realized a comparable table but for characters' worst instead of best newstats finish would be extra relevant for the early game, i.e. Cid Highwind 82nd place which he'll be flirting with over next few days. Giving the marks of ignominy to avoid.

yeah there isn't it's pretty obvious, but not for someone who hasn't played the game yet. I don't know why I'm so hesitant to just say it...

Final Fantasy XVIs final boss has been Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Thanks to the stupidities of internet tribalism, fans of each game who harbor negative emotions toward the other will be fighting between themselves for years to come.

Does he ever actually fight with you in battle, or was he always more of a "duck behind the counter when the fighting starts" kind of party member ;)

Anyways being a guest member isn't enough to be added to the table anyways!! Would have to blow up the FFIX section with all those Tantalus guys, not to mention FFXII with their rotating cast of "who? huh?" guests

Guests are not party members

We all know the difference between a guest and a party member

I think some blur the line, like Beatrix. And I dunno how to classify the Laguna crew.

Beatrix absolutely does not blur the line. She's playable for one short sequence. She's a guest.

Laguna and crew count as party members because you have multiple extensive sequences where they're the only ones you control. Plus, their stats carry over to the other party members.

Reddas in FFXII TZA is certainly playable, but would original XIIs version of him count? He tags along for a couple of hours in both cases, but only with the changes brought about by The Zodiac Age does he become controllable.

Eh, he transitions from guest to playable guest in that case. You've gotta be around for more than just one part of the game, even if it's a rather big part in the case of Reddas.

Like if you did a "rank the party members" topic, people would not include Reddas or Beatrix. They would include Laguna, Kiros, and Ward (although maybe some wouldn't).

honestly this is probably longer than when you get Edward or Palom and Porom in IV

FFIV is a weird case where it constantly rotates people in and out of your party out of necessity. It's more a sign of the times than anything else.

I think it works for what it tries to convey and only the main five are super relevant gameplay wise

i started 3D this year and will probably go back to it briefly to wrap it up (little over halfway), especially since I just got ending A in Nier

I tend to not count characters that aren't in your final party. Obvious exceptions to major characters who die, or something like FFIV and XVI. For FFXVI any guest that lingers for a long while counts as a party member.

For XVI, I'd consider Joshua, Torgal, and Jill as party members. Anyone else is a guest.

That;s fair cause of the MENU, but I think the major guests are about as important as FFIV temporaries. (Byron, Gav, Dion particularly)

They're important to the story, certainly, but they're around for one section of the game as guests.
